The Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge will be decided this weekend with the final seven games being played, including top-ranked Minnesota hosting No. 5 Boston College at Mariucci Arena for a two-game series beginning on Friday night at 8 p.m. ET on BTN.

Hockey East currently has a 9-4 edge in the points department, but six of the final seven games will be played in Big Ten arenas during the upcoming weekend.

Eleven of the country’s most storied college hockey programs are competing in the inaugural Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge, which includes 13 games between October 18 and 27.

The conference that records the most points from the 13 games will be declared the winner, with points being awarded as follows: two points for a win, one point for a tie and a bonus point for a road win. Should each conference record the same number of points, the results of the Penn State vs. Vermont game on neutral ice at the Wells Fargo Center, host of the 2014 NCAA Frozen Four, in Philadelphia, Pa., will serve as the tie-breaker.

The 17 schools that play in these two conferences have compiled an unparalleled record of success on the ice, combining to claim 33 national championships during the 66 seasons that the NCAA has sponsored the sport. Of the 11 schools participating in the inaugural Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge, five took part in last season’s NCAA Championship.
