The pre-spring version of the CFN 2021 rankings with a first look at all the Big Ten teams.

2. Minnesota Golden Gophers
Why To Be Happy: The main men are back in the backfield. RB Mohamed Ibrahim is returning along with QB Tanner Morgan and most of the top receivers. Best of all, the offensive line is loaded with veterans. With corner Coney Durr returning and former Clemson super-recruit Nyles Pinkney and NC State’s Val Martin coming in for the defensive interior, the D has veterans. However …

What To Work On: The defense needs to be far better and far stronger. It was a disaster against the run, didn’t take the ball away enough, and struggled on third downs. There are enough veterans to be better, but the production has to follow.

Bottom Line: Minnesota has the experience to get back to the 2019 level as long as the defense is stronger. The offense might not have the explosion of two years ago, but it’ll be very, very good.

I can buy 2nd in the West heading into next year.

I wonder if many other "prognosticators" will put us that high in their rankings headed into next season. That is pretty optimistic based off last year. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, I just doubt most national media would see us that positively.

I think we're rated a little high to be honest. Until we can show that we're better than Wisconsin and Iowa consistently (or at all) I can't see us being ranked ahead of one of them. Throw in the improved Northwestern team and I'm not quite sure I see 2nd in the west.

Can’t base everything for next year based off of this years results.

Gophers were essentially 2 plays from being 3rd in the west last year and return a lot more than northwestern.

I would probably pick Minnesota 3rd in the west and I suspect most will pick Minnesota 3-4

But it’s not outlandish

We usually don't get the benefit of the doubt though.

I agree with TMVANDER that until MN can beat Iowa, I just wont put us ahead of them. That being said, I still believe that if Duncan and Faalale had played this past season we would have beaten Marylands and Wisconsin for a 5-2 season. Lots to be optimistic about going forward. I want to see better in game coaching and clock management.

We should all have high expectations for this coming campaign; we are set up for a return to 2019 form and that will propel us forward, so we can get on Bucky's level yearly.

Man I wish the season started tomorrow.

I really wish we didn't have to play Ohio St...I think we'll probably be a better team than our record will indicate

Maybe. If we lose...it’s hard for them to beat us a second time.
