With the Big Ten Basketball tournaments getting close, who plans on attending the tournaments in Indianapolis?

Question about Amtrak

I'll be there for the men's, and already looking forward to it. Hoping the Gophers aren't sweating it out again.

Speaking of which. ...

I'm thinking of going old school on the way to Indy. Amtrak tickets are real cheap, and I haven't taken a train since I was about 4 years old. A question for those who have been on an extended train trip before. Any idea if a train is likely to have (cable/satellite) televisions? Perhaps in a bar/dining car? Would be traveling to Indy on the Wednesday beforehand, so if the train has ESPN (read: Championship Week) that would make the trip go a lot faster.

Thanks in advance.

I'm seriously contemplating going this year, if I can get the time off work. I like downtown Indy (definitely will hit up St. Elmo's steakhouse again!) and Conseco Fieldhouse is a great venue. Glad they won't do the conference tourney at the United Center any more. There is absolutely nothing to do outside that arena.

I personally have loved taking Amtrak on the several times I've done so. It's a very relaxing way to travel and see the country, without question.

The trains you would/will be taking will have a dining car, as well as an observation car with a bar in it. However, to my knowledge, I can't remember having television on the trains. It's possible they have added them now, and it's also possible they had them before and I didn't notice them. What I can guarantee is they won't be in the general seating areas, but rather in the observation/bar car if there are any, which is a great place to spend your trip anyways.

I am also considering the same thing, by the way.

I've taken Amtrak 3 times, last time this was this summer, and I have had a terrible luck, to the point where I won't take Amtrak. That aside I don't remember ever seeing TV's on board. But again that could have changed, I would guess the best way to watch Championship Week is to bring a laptop with a wireless modem from one of the cellphone companies. Also I don't remember seeing an observation car on the trip from Chicago to Indy.

Otherwise I'm going to plug, again, what a great time the BTT is. The best move is to get a hotel room downtown and just spend the weekend in downtown. You get to attend a couple of basketball games during the day then it's kinda like a big bar crawl at night. You get to interact with fans from most teams(you can count on one hand how many PSU, Iowa, and NW fans spend the weekend) and simply talk B10 hoops. I highly recommend going.

Looking for some help

Well the tournament definately sounds like a great time. I've never been but am looking in to it this year. How can I get ticket information for the event?

Update

Amtrak informed me they don't have TV's on their trains. Looks like I'll be renting a car and making the trip to Indy.

B10 Tourney

Great event. It's an annual event for my wife, son, and daughter-in-law. We drive, usually stay one nite in Champaign or southern IL, then the weekend downtown near the action. It is a lot of fun watching the games and interacting with other fans. We don't attend all the games, but kind of pick & choose, selling those we don't use. We'll being hooking up with MNBoiler at some point. Maybe see some of you there.

Honestly the best way we have found it simply getting tickets off the street. People all over have tickets. But just as a warning the most expensive sessions are the Friday night and Saturday those tickets go above face value, the rest you can get for face or so.

We are going for the 4th time and Indy is definitely superior to Chicago. We wont go to Chicago again-People there dont seem to care. In Indy its the best show in town and everything is convenient. Our hotel is only 1 block from Conseco. It is definitely a great time win or lose, but lets win!

I go (often, not every year) with my cousins from Ohio St. Indy (Conseco) is a great venue but Chicago (obviously) was closer for me.

I am in for Indy as well, and love the city, but it is easier and cheaper to get to Chicago.

If you are up for buying tickets on the street, you should have no problem, although if Purdue, Indiana or Illinois get to the semifnals, it shoots the market value up a lot, and you never know what you are getting. If you are more risk averse, I would suggest getting a season ticket holder to order tickets for you from our ticket office. Better seats than through Ticketmaster, although more expensive because on the lower bowl. My leisure time is too valuable to show up in town without a ticket.

It's a great time with pretty much only diehard basketball people there.

Just some quick questions. Are tickets good for all games during the day? How much? And are seats first come first serve?

Someone with the handle of the OP, and similarly few posts, has started very similar threads on other (non-Gopher) Big Ten message boards ...

Tickets are good for 1 session (not all day). I think they are $70 or $80 but I don't remember. Seats are assigned on the ticket, not "pick your own" basis.

Bump. Are there a lot of GHers going? I am thinking about making the trek for a first time as a senior, but its at the beginning of our spring break so a lot of buddies are going on vacations etc....i am thinking about just going anyway and dragging along my gf or dad or something

Check out student deals. I know they had incredible deals last year for current BT students, something life $50 for all sessions. It may have been a one year thing because of recession, but check it out. Regular lower bowl are $300 for all sessions.
