Honestly, I'm not feeling good about the Big Ten's chances of winning the Challenge this year. I don't think they matched it up as well as they could have, as they gave OSU a middling Maryland team and gave a top ACC team (Syracuse) a middling Indiana team. Would've made more sense to match up IU and Maryland, but I think they wanted to give Syracuse a home game to start the Challenge and IU was due to play on the road so that made more sense in that regard.

I am going to pick Syracuse, Georgia Tech, Pitt, Duke, FSU, NC St for the ACC; Iowa, OSU, UW, MSU, Purdue, Nebraska for the B1G. 6-6 finish is what I come up with.

Michigan is going to be embarrass the big ten....

Gophers beat Noles, all I care about. Seriously I bet the big ten surprises and pulls a 6-6 tie out

I am thinking that the Gophers & Hawkeyes are the keys to getting out of the first night in a tie. Good luck to your squad. I thought Penn St would defeat Pitt (still could, but looking bad for the Nits).

EDIT: Didn't see the Illini meltdown coming. Huh?

If the Big Ten ties or even wins the challenge, I think that reiterates the strength of the conference. Remember, the three teams that aren't playing in the challenge from the ACC are Wake Forest, VA Tech, and Clemson. The pre-season ACC poll predicted those teams to finish 13th, 14th, and 15th. Plus they just added one top program (Cuse) and two good programs (ND and Pitt). It would essentially be equivalent to the BT adding Kansas, Iowa St. and Texas to the conference, and telling NW, Penn St., and Nebraska to sit out the challenge this year.

These are great points, and the "fairness" of this particular Challenge is awfully questionable. How did the ACC decide which teams to keep out? I'd suggest that attaining a tie indicates that the B1G is better than the ACC based on your points. Has ESPN made a mention of it? It was strange to see scores of VaTech and Clemson with relatively weak wins over awful opponents the same night of the opening of the Challenge.

Penn State has been surprisingly decent this year. Thought they had a chance to pull out the win over Pitt. Illinois dropping their lead makes it difficult for the B1G to outright win this thing.

With the Wisky (on the road) + OSU wins and NW loss, ACC is still up 5-4.

The final three games are all at Big Ten arenas - MSU (tied at half), Purdue (up 20 in the 2nd) should both hold serve. It comes down to Neb vs. Miami, still in the first. If Neb also holds on, and as much as I hate to say it, it will be the Wisky win on the road that put us over the top.

I predict Miami will score 13 in the first half against Nebraska.

What did Clem's Gophers put up the first half against St. Louis in the Tourney a couple decades back? I thought they had 3 points through 10 minutes that game, can't remember what they ended up with for the half, but I remember it being one of the most frustrating Gopher bball games I ever watched.

Somehow the Gophers had only 3 points after the first 10 minutes, but had 25 by the break, and took the game to overtime. Just remember thinking, over and over, "what if" they hadn't started off so entirely poorly.

MSU's high water mark of this season happened already. They aren't going to be ranked #1 again after this week, and it may take them several years to get back to #1.

Well we now know who the most fervent anti-MSU Gopherhole poster is! Glad we figured that out.

6-6, should've been 8-4. Illinois chokes away a 12 point second half lead yesterday, MSU loses at home to an unranked team tonight.

Stupid MSU.

MSU isn't a powerhouse #1 by any means. We haven't had one of those since the Ty Lawson & Tyler Hansbrough UNC Championship team. The fact is that nobody is ranked #1 for very long anymore. Nobody sticks out from the rest like they used to.

Bad loss by Michigan St but nothing to cry over

I definitely agree. The roller coaster ride that is North Carolina, which already beat #3 Louisville by 9, has also lost to Belmont at home and to UAB. But remember they are chock full of McDonald's All Americans and can beat anyone when playing to their potential. Michigan St. will play many ranked big ten teams and could wiff the top spot again.

I'll save you the time & just cut and paste this for you after every MSU loss this season. We get your message loud & clear; you don't think Sparty is national championship caliber.
