Big Lead: Auburn With Two Losses Would Be More Deserving of a Playoff Spot Than MSU

Well I predict the SEC Champ will be a 2 loss team. So that's not a crazy thought. However, I don't see ANY way that the SEC will get 2 teams in the playoff. Good thoughts, but not going to happen this year. Only possible way is for the two Mississippi teams to run the table with one losing to the other and possibly they both could go. But neither of them will run the table, so I'm not too worried. If Oklahoma can beat Baylor, which I think they will do easily, they will be in. Notre Dame may make it as a one loss team. If Florida St can beat Notre Dame this weekend, there is not another team on their schedule that can beat them. So looking like:

1. Florida St. - ACC
2. Oklahoma - Big 12
3. Notre Dame - Ind
4. Georgia - SEC

Pac 12 and Big 10 left out.

I guess to even get mentioned, the Gophers should just run the table and screw everyone up.

GO GOPHERS!!!

per The Big Lead, which suggests that a 2-loss SEC team could get into College Football Playoffs over a 1-loss Spartans team:

Go Gophers!!

Certainly a possibility, but probably a moot point. It's much more likely Auburn will have 3 losses than MSU will have two.

Bottom line is neither Auburn or Sparty has a chance if they lose another game. I think the only way a 2-loss SEC team gets in is if it's the champion. A 2-loss non-divisional champion from any conference. ... not gonna' happen SEC, no matter how good your conference is.

Auburn shouldn't be ungrateful if Sparty gets in and they don't. Who played a big role in getting the Tigers to the title game last year?

I respectfully disagree. No way ND gets in with a loss. That's the price they pay for being independent.

Agree.

And I have FSU in the same boat as Baylor. If they lose once, they're out. For as much crap as the Big Ten has received (and deservedly so), the ACC is worse. Jameis State has to run the table to be 1 of the 4 playoff teams. Too many other good teams (especially in the SEC) for them to survive a loss.

Remember, that one loss would be to FSU this weekend. They won't fall far and SEC teams above them will continue to knock each other out. We'll see. Michigan St. is in if they run the table, but they have played worse and worse as the year has gone on, so doesn't look likely. And anyone watch how awful Virginia Tech was last night. And they beat OSU? Not good for the Buckeyes.

I would respectfully argue that Sparty needs to shore up their 4th quarter "coasting" issues. Though the defense isn't as stout as it's been, am not ready to say they're looking worse as the season goes on. Nebraska and Purdue games were well under control through three quarters, but then they fell asleep for whatever the reasons (vs. Purdue Dantonio's bad decision to run a fake punt up by 14 points comes to mind, as does Cook's INT up 14 when in FG position).

If Sparty struggles at all in their next two games vs. Indiana (awful D + 3rd string QB) or Michigan (just plain bad), then I'll be convinced there are bigger, perhaps too-late-to-fix issues.

I could be wrong, but I have a hard time believing two SEC teams will make the playoffs unless one of the teams is from the East division (not happening this year). I just don't think a team that doesn't make the conference championship deserves to go.

Doesn't matter. Whoever loses tomorrow (ND - independent, FSU - crappy ACC) is out of the playoff picture. And that doesn't necessarily mean a one-loss MSU is in either. There's a lot of football yet to be played.

If two SEC teams make the playoff, the conferences that get left out will riot (at least one of the power 5 will be left out as it is). It will make the BCS controversies look like tickle fights.

As always the lobbying for the biggest tv/stadium audience will be a factor, though difficult to pin down or quantify. Perhaps we should ask the TV networks which matchups they would like to see.

I hope the committee chooses the top 4 conference champions. Anything else is a black eye to the game. Notre Dame is a de facto member of the ACC as far as I'm concerned.

Lots of respect going on. I respectfully respect your respectfulness.
