Rhode Island game last year was Peacock (sucks) only.

Back in the 80s, many Gopher games were not televised. In the 90s, I felt fortunate to live a couple miles away from the Mall of America. America Live Sports Bar seemed to always broadcast the live feed when it was only available for television audiences on tape delay.
The Big 10 Network was a game changer. It was nice to have all Gopher games available.
For the last few years Gopher games always seem to be available yet it's difficult to have the right platform.
I'd be willing to pay for standalone viewing but not sure that would work either.
I know these are first world problems yet it's annoying as hell.

Bold: really is quite a massive thing. Many Gopher games are on BTN each year.

What was it before that? Were they on something like 45TV or Fox Sports North? Or they just didn't have most games on (cable) TV each year?

Sorry was just talking about 2025 football. Mentioned "so far" and the first nine games, so thought it was clear, sorry I wasn't.

Yes, last year there were some football games on stream only, and MBB/WBB/hockey lots of stream only games.

I don't have the hate for Peacock you do, but I understand your frustration. I actually like it, as the start of the game won't be missed (as it sometimes is if the game before the Gophers game goes long). On Peacock its a stand-alone channel, so we get to watch from the start. I think for a stream-only broadcast, Peacock is great production value and the picture color is the vibrant NBC look.

USA Network has also done a bunch of NASCAR races recently. So, they aren't scared to put live sports on it.

Actually, the Big Ten Saturday Night broadcast has had priority over Notre Dame for both years NBC has had the Big Ten. Big Ten gets 14-16 Prime Time games on NBC each season. That includes some non-Saturday broadcasts. But, the Big Ten gets the Saturday night prime time game almost every week.

Notre Dame home games are mostly day games and they, too, have a game on Peacock each year. I think Notre Dame has three prime time home games this year, including one that involved a Big Ten team (USC), so Big Ten still kind of can claim a piece of the prime time spot in that one.

My hunch with regards to ND, is they don't want to host more than 3 night games. Logistically it's hard enough emptying campus/South Bend after sunset for a late afternoon game, much less around midnight.

I believe generally they have had 2 games at night and then another at a neutral site (Shamrock Series) which they control, but are not having one this season.

Next year their Badger game at Lambeau is part of that deal, so that's another Big 10 team that will still be on NBC.

I'm already dropping many Starbucks every month. That should be enough. I don't want to drop a couple MORE Starbucks just to get yet ANOTHER service that I'll only use a couple times per year. Eff that.
 

I get Peacock with Xfinity internet since it’s the same parent company. I use YouTube TV but subscribe only for football season since I don’t watch other sports much so it’s not worth the cost.

Using totally made up numbers for someone that *isn’t* interested in sports conservatively investing $20/month with an annual 10% increase in contributions - rather than paying for increasingly bidded up sports media rights costs demanded by Disney/Fox/Comcast/Paramount for NFL plus everyone else passed on by their cable or streamer - at 8% compounded will have roughly $300k in their investment portfolio in 40 years.

YouTubeTV brings value to the table, far above just access to particular content.

- quality of stream (this is massive to me ... definition/clarify of the picture, smoothness/lack of glitches ..... I've tried some other streaming in the past and YTTV crushed them in terms of quality)
- DVR (another really huge one for me ... they have a great DVR
- watch all content in one app, no exiting and loading apps
- easy to use interface
- multi-game split screen (can watch 4 games simultaneously, then go into one to focus on that as desired)


To me that value in of itself is worth $20/month. I'd pay that ... to have all streaming live content go through that interface.

Then, they could just let me deal directly with the content providers. If I want ESPN, then I choose to pay $35/month to ESPN for all their channels --> those channels appear in my lineup
If I want to pay another $30/month to FOX for all their channels --> those channels appear in my lineup

And so on. I the user choose which groups I want to pay for, including any new price increases, or not.


Why can't it be like that?

I do not worry about catching Gopher games live on tv.

I made a game on Aggievision work. There will never be a future Gopher game harder than that to watch on TV.

If you don't live in the Twin Cities it's easier to get the Gophers on TV for free than it is the Vikings. By a good margin.

I guess if you package The ‘Cock, Paramount plus, Fox One, and ESPN unlimited (PLUS Netflix, HBO Max, Amazon Prime, Apple TV for premium content) you can get back to what YouTube TV mostly offers….

We’ll see what Bob will budge for. He can’t be delusional enough to think everyone is going to jump for a worse user experience in ESPN unlimited. Maybe Pettiti has ideas.

When I started streaming YouTube TV it was $42 month and included ESPN and Fox Sports. Now it’s about $80 with the 4k upgrade and they’ve added at least 40 channels that I will never watch. And ESPN is missing today.

Might have to go ala carte month to month everything and only subscribe for the month(s) there’s something I want to watch. I might even save some money.

As YTTV subscribers already know an agreement was arrived at Friday allowing us the pleasure of unimpeded access to elite ESPN broadcast crews, Dallas Cowboy MNF content, so much rejoicing ensued. Sweetening the pot was promised access to ESPN Unlimited content as a free ad-on to YTTV by end 2026; free as in PE-projected multiple YTTV double-digit price increases by early 2027. Disney will get what they need to cover their $17B sports budget - with projected increases to cover their new multibillion NFL deal (with integrated betting options!), always. All parties win- yay!
