Bielema being Bielema...

First things first....in a rare turn of events we actually caught some breaks on the officiating front. Doesn't happen often so have to enjoy it when it does.

That said, the targeting was the right call. Bielema doesn't like that it wasn't called on the field but it was the right call.

We got lucky that Koi wasn't flagged for a late hit on the sliding QB. It would have been a soft call but it would not have been shocking if they had thrown it because he was clearly down when Koi made contact. Not much Koi can do there because was already in the process of diving but still a call that gets made and one we would be complaining about big time if the same thing had happened to Brosmer.

I thought we had a target on a WR on Illinois drive after the fake punt. They never stopped the game. Complaining about officiating is for losers typically.

The most surprised player was Koi that no flag was thrown.

Clearly Perich was trying not to hit the Illini player. He went to his knees and put one or both hands out to stop himself. I wouldn't have been shocked if a flag had flown, but I'm not shocked that it didn't.

If any of Perich’s upper body hit him I think it would have been a flag if only because it looks more intentional.

Still could have been a flag for sure.

QB sure tried to sell it too.

I agree that they missed the late hit, however that hit occurred after they'd already gotten a first down, and they got another first down after that, so it had little impact on the game.

Yeah

The koi thing could’ve been a foul

Wouldn’t have been targeting

The targeting will be shown in example videos

I don't know if it matters with how the rule is written but Koi was already diving when the QB started to slide. Koi did what he could to bail and hit him with his butt instead of a shoulder, etc.

Refs missed a couple of egregious holds on Illinois's final drive, including the strip sack.

Koi play: I am surprised they didn't throw a flag.

Targeting: Bielema is the clown. Pereira was on it from the start, saying that was targeting. The guy easily could have put his helmet to a side & shoulder right through the midsection or thighs of Spencer and deliver a textbook tackle. Instead, he tried to be Chuck Freaking Cecil launching his head at Spencer.

This is the exact scenario that the rule is trying to help eliminate from football.

Definitely was hands to the face on Joyner but he still made the play. Back judge was right there and didn't call it but in the end it didn't matter.

“…Bielema, Bielema, Bielema…clown show officiating…” That’s all you got?…”

Now that is evidence that this loss is going to live rent free in Bielema’s head for a while.

Make the Scarlet Knight sing in soprano out in Jersey next Saturday, Gopher!

but the announcers on TV said that the Gophers got away with penalties all game that weren't called - and they're unbiased.

From my vantage point (the couch), it seems the refs were letting a ton of stuff go on both sides. Was mentioned several times by the broadcasters. Which is fine if both teams adjust for it. One could see holding (on both the offense and the defense) on nearly every replay, yet I do not think it was called more than once? There was not a flag thrown for PI the entire game, defenses were hitting receivers downfield well beyond the 5 yard "line of scrimmage buffer," etc. Sour grapes from Bielema
