About 18 months ago, Bret Bielema was invited to speak at the Minnesota Football Coaches Association’s annual conference on Friday. The former Wisconsin Badgers coach didn’t believe it.

“I said, ‘Yeah, right. These guys hate me,’ ” the current coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks told hundreds of colleagues in a banquet room at the DoubleTree hotel in St. Louis Park.
