I bet Maturi wishes he could take back his "Tubby Hire" comment at the press conference. You have to remember that wasn't a scripted speech. It was something he said "off the cuff." So I think everyone needs to let go the "Tubby Hire" comment. Just accept the fact that we will get a good coach and he may not have all the flash of a Tubby hire but will be a solid football coach.

If Maturi gets a Tubby like coach, he won't regret it. Obviously the speech was not written but I'm sure he thought a lot about what he was going to say. Maturi truly wants to find a very good coach like he did with Tubby. If Maturi gets one that remains to be seen.

a tubby like hire can mean one of 2 things.... a tentured coach who has sucseeded everywhere hes gone... ala kill- or it could mean someone whos won at the highest level... ala- fulmer... either way im just down right getting tired of this... ive never been so stress out on something i have no control over in my life

He followed up with the Tubby-like hire by saying something along the lines of:

Is that person out there? I don't know, but we're going to try to find him if he is.

That's all. He basically said that if there's a big name out there with great experience who is willing to come to Minnesota, we'll take a look

Wish he never had said it for one big reason. I'm so tired of people replying to practically every potential hire with this comment: "I'm against Coach X because he would not be a Tubby Smith like hire."

That's what I mean

That's what I mean. He basically said it would great to get another hire like we did with Tubby Smith but made no promises. Just that they would do their homework and get the best person they could. Folks are just taking the statement out of context.

Jerry Kill is far from anything like a tubby hire. stay far far away from the guy
