So what do you think has been or should be going on with the U's preparing for Brewster's departure and hiring of a new coach?

phone call made int he following order
1) Tony Dungy, your offered the job, NO, who do you recommend?
2) See Answer to #1
3) Jim Harbaugh, hang up after being laughed at
4) Al Golden, tell him there is 2+ million reasons he should come to MN
5) Brent Venables see #4
6) Troy Calhoun see #4
That is my first days work schedule, Crazy Joe Davola for AD.

Right now, I imagine nothing is being officially done. For example there probably haven't been any meetings where they are discussing replacements or whether or not there should even be a change. I would speculate that people have voiced concern or wondered aloud what should be done. If the downward spiral continues, then they will start getting serious. If we get embarrassed in Madison this weekend, that might just seal his fate.

Lots of broom pushing, checking of storage facilities for space, buying the cheapest champagne possible, studying, test taking and searching for criminals.

They are probably just making a list of coaches that they might be interesting, and listening for what coaches are interested. Nothing through official channels, of course. I'm sure there are a number of ambitious coaches polishing up their resumes.

I believe Maturi is probably seeing a physical therapist in order to prep for his forthcoming knee jerk reaction after the Iowa game.

Rather than having a plan in place, and getting going on the new regime, recruiting, and selling the program back to the fans, I assume Maturi is busy preparing a thank you note to Barry Alvarez and Brett Bielema for graciously inviting us to the Bucky homecoming extravaganza.

The knee jerk reaction will happen at the end of the season, just as it did with Mason, and the search will be limited to NFL position coaches.

Knee-jerk? Certainly not. A Knee-jerk reaction is one in which action is taken rashly without taking time to prepare. A knee-jerk reaction would have been firing Brewster imediately after the South Dakota game. Waiting until after the season is not knee-jerk. That will be when the potential new coaches are available.

Firing Mason after the bowl game may have been unusual, but to lose a bowl game by the biggest collapse in bowl game history is also unusual. I think many coaches would be fired after such a loss.

Well if they are planning on replacing him, then I would hope that they've been very quietly laying the groundwork in preparation for that, IE contacting candidates of interest (or their representatives) on the extreme down-low. The worst thing in my opinion would be for word to leak out if they DO plan on getting rid of him, as that would make him a true lame-duck and would just be cruel and the guy certainly does not deserve that.

Maturi quietly puting together a list of possible candidates wouldn't surprise anyone. I suspect he is calling around and gathering information on possible candidates. I would also expect that Maturi is discusiing ways of sweetening the pay package to give himself the flexibility to approch some of the higher profile candidates. What I don't expect, is a public annoucement, another under the radar stealth hire, like with Tubby, just might be in the cards.

I would hope that he has hired a search firm and has the firm talking to coaches agents asking them if they might be interested in atleast listening, should a program in the Big Ten happen to have a vacancy in the near future. This way the University and Maturi can say truthfully that they have not had discussions with any other coaches or their agents.

My source says there is noticeable activity going on in regards to finding Brewster's replacement. No specifics other than to reaffirm that Brewster is definitely gone.

My source says that behind closed doors, they are watching porn.

I read a great article about that exact subject on ESPN.com years ago, and darnit I wish I could remember some of the details from that so I could search it out. But it was all about this one fella, an older guy I believe in his 50s at the time who owns a search firm and is THE guy when it comes to acting as a matchmaker and a go-between between football coaches and schools of prospective interest to each other, and of course due to circumstances is required to keep it all completely hush-hush, I mean no word can be allowed to leak out whatsoever. It was a great read, and this guy really knew his stuff, and I would hope that if Brew is to replaced that Maturi would retain the services of someone like that.

Sorry, Unregistered user, but my source says that behind closed doors, they're playing Risk.

You're right. Its all about plausible deniability. That way both sides can walk away without egg on their face if the negotiations head south. That's how Maturi did it with Tubby Smith. If memory serves a "quote-unquote" search firm wasn't involved in that hire, at least not in the traditional sense. People crap on Maturi for saying that Tubby fell into his lap. Maybe so, but he should get credit for the delicate nature in which the deal had to be done.

If Maturi wants to salvage what's left of his reputation, that's the way it has to go down this time. Regardless of his faults, Brewster has pulled together a respectable recruiting class (at least by our standards) so far. A knee jerk reaction to a big loss and S-canning Brewster will result in those recruits being scattered to the wind. Imagine for a second if a seamless transition from Mason to a new coach had been made in 2007? Greg Jones might be wearing Maroon & Gold rather than green&white. If that was the case we probably wouldn't be 1-4 right now.

My money is on whoever controls Australia.

Ah, the Australian strategy. Take Australia and slowly spread out from there. If two players have the same strategy, they beat each other up and both lose pretty quickly.

Many hours spent playing the computer version of Risk between classes. I've got the board version at home just waiting for my 3 yr old to get old enough to put a Risk hurting on him. Unfortunately we are currently stuck with CandyLand and impromptu games of 52 card pickup dictated by my 2 yr old.

I'm sure Maturi is already starting to get the ball rolling in finding a new coach. I'm sure Maturi is putting a list together as I type of his potetnial canidates for the next head football coach. It would not suprise me if they have talked with Dungy and other coaches about the possiblity of coming here. A lot more goes on behind the scenes then we realize and I doubt they will wait until the end of the season to fire Brewster if things get out of hand.

Candyland got replaced by taking all the pillows off the coach and finding news ways to hurl yourself into them. I don't think a long game like Risk will ever take place in my house with my busy bees.

Nice! BTW, we did make the Goldy pancakes before the MTSU game and I've got a pic on my phone, but I'm too much of a tech idiot to figure out how to get it from there to here.

First Maturi should be doing some research to see what has been the most effective way to turn around similar programs in similar situations from a historical perspective. How were schools like Oklahoma, Iowa, Arizona, WI, and Iowa able to turn around their programs? At a minimum they should be lining up booster donations for Brewster's buyout. Reworking the budget's for the next 4-5 years to handle the cost of getting a coach of at least Bo Pelini's initial cost (total coaching staff cost). Putting together a short list of possible candidates should the decision based on the year's results be to fire Brewster.

Maturi's far too busy slaving away on Tubby's contract extension, which is being chiseled in granite. That's why it's taken 7 months and still isn't done.

It's not his fault hiring a softball coach took 5 months, but he can only do one thing at a time. He'll evaluate Brew when he's checked off the other things currently on his list, probably around February. And after a complete analysis, maybe he'll make a move. But probably not. Either way, there's no sense rushing into these things. Never make a decision before you have to. ;)

The people I played with were always too busy trying to capture Europe or South America. IF I ended up with 2 territories down there I would make a play for Australia. I usually ended up 3rd or 4th out in a game of 6. I think I did win once using the strategy. A football player used to play with us when I lived in Comstock, he was always pissed he was the first one eliminated.
