Some people have said the Gophers offense was a little off vs. Rutgers, but the offense DID score 35 points, which isn't too shabby.
So what was the problem, if any?

The Gophers rushed 45 times for 198 yards, or 4.4 yards per carry. This was down significantly from the Nebraska game where they rushed 49 times for 322 yards, or 6.6 yards per carry. The week before vs. Illinois they rushed 52 times for 332 yards, or 6.4 yards per carry. It is interesting that the numbers were down so much. I think the Gophers got out to a huge lead then got into a very vanilla offense. The offensive line did not play as well as they did vs. Nebraska and may have had a minor letdown.

On the passing side, QB Tanner Morgan was also a little off and missed some throws. He was 15-28 for 245 yards, but 66 yards of that came with the long bomb to Tyler Johnson near the end of the game. His rating of 150.6 was his lowest of the season and completion percentage of 53.6 was his second lowest of the year. His 8.8 yards per completion was his lowest of the year and again, that 66 yard completion helped that out, too!

I think the offense had a bit of a letdown after looking very good the last few weeks. I do not see any cause for alarm and as I stated before they did score 35 points on the road which normally we would all be ecstatic about. I think the Gophers need to work on a few things and continue to try to get better as always. They will have some things to work on at practice this week. Maryland has played very well vs. the Gophers and really handled us last year. But just as we did vs. Illinois and Nebraska, we have to reverse that and take it to them. On defense, we will miss LB Martin and have to make adjustments but let's get back down to that offensive line handling Maryland. If we look past this team and think about Penn St. this is a game we can lose. Hopefully we can get some more fans to the game this week!

They started slow...it happens. In the end, it was what should be expected, a dominant performance against a bad team.

I'm pretty sure Fleck & Co will not let anyone look past MD. Bucky will be a constant reminder all week. I think the crowd for MD will be similar in sales and attendance numbers to Nebby, with many more Gopher fans of course.
