Take care of business this week, and get a win! If we get a victory I like our chances to beat MSU at home to end the year with 7 wins. Yes, I said it.

One more drink before bed.

Beat Illinois and we got a good shot to head to Houston for the Meineke Car Care Bowl.

Beat Illinois and Michigan St. then what Bowl game do we get?

I'll humor you, we would have a shot at the Gator Bowl NYD in Jacksonville. But I'd almost prefer the Houston bowl because we would have a reasonable shot at winning it, as opposed to drawing Texas A&M or South Carolina and getting massacred.

I would prefer we go 7-5 and play somebody people have heard of before. Might help us in the recruiting department, and the extra practice time is extremely important. Who knows, with Lattimore out we could possibly beat USC.

If they want to go to a bowl game they better beat Illinois since they are not going to beat Nebraska or Michigan St.

Michigan State does not look unbeatable at all, especially at home.

If we would somehow beat Ill & MSU we would still go to Houston. If we had 7-5 record a bowl committe can still pick a 6-6 team over them. Since we have a *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#ty fan base these bowls would pick any BIG team over us, other than maybe Indiana.

The loss to Michigan really hurts cus this was our chance. They were beatable with no denard. Have u seen their recruiting under hoke! We won't get close to them for at least another 20 years. Its going to be like the schembechler years again for decades, n they're an every year foe now. I remember before '05 when everyone seemed to look forward to them rotating off our schedule. We blew the rich rod game in '08 when they sucked, and blew r chance this year.

Beating Illinois would result in the kind of season most of us were realistically hoping for in August. A win on Saturday would be a big step for this program that has only won 1 of the last 13 Big Ten road games. That extra 15 practices is big. I don't know how many spring or summer practice sessions we get, but its not many; so this would add 30% +/- practices under our belt that many of our 2013 opponents will not have had. Those extra practices will make the difference between a close loss and a close win next year and net us at least one more victory in 2013. Its a building process and we need to take individual steps. The next step is getting a conference road win.

Everybody can worry about Michigan State in two weeks.

I don't think all is well, but it makes things a lot better. The problem that may pop up is that there is now an enormous amount of pressure on the guys to win next week. Illinois is a complete train wreck and eliminated from bowl contention. Still, we've seen Gopher teams lose games like this before. If Kill is serious about the importance of bowl eligibility (I think he is), they cannot overlook the Illini.

Yesterday wasn't a bad loss, but it was incredibly frustrating. I think that a lot of people are frustrated by losing all three trophy games this year. Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan were all beatable. There wasn't a point where I looked at both teams on the field and didn't think the Gophers belonged. They just made too many mistakes and couldn't overcome them in any of those games. Hopefully that all changes as the team continues to get better.

Part of taking the "next step" to me is winning a Big Ten road game - Illinois will hopefully be that game.

Go Gophers!!

Agree. For many teams it is a tough choice between how many rotations to give your departing seniors vs. giving the young guys a jump on next year. Not so for this young team. Bowl practices will be huge for so many players in this team. Have to get that sixth win.

I shall prognosticate a Gopher WIN and All Will Be Well.

Gophers 35, Illinois 17.

This team has met my expectation for this season, which is five wins. I agree that playing the young guys will pay big dividends next year. Winning at Illinois, and especially beating MSU at home with post season bowl game will help in recruiting.

Win one more game and this season is an undeniable success, lose out and it's debatable.

Don't forget NW. They just don't have the fan base to begin with.

This is definitely one we should win, and would be a huge disappointment if we lose. Illinois has been atrocious in the Big Ten. They've been outscored 194-60.

Remember: MSU could be coming in as a totally defeated team (much like Illinois last year). Hopefully it is bitter cold out as well.

In addition, Minnesota is 3-0 in the final home game of the season at TCF Bank Stadium. SDSU in 2009, Iowa in 2010 and Illinois in 2011. MSU will be a tough matchup with their excellent defense and they will feed it to LaVeon Bell 40 times. That said, I like our chances.

Northwestern has poor home attendance, but good bowl attendance due to a more nationwide alumni base. Bowls have recognized this and actually traded NU up over some other teams in recent years.
