Among the four at-large BCS spots:

1.) TCU (4)
2.) Loser of Cincy (5) / Pitt (9)
3.) Boise State (6)
4.) Oklahoma State (12)

The rest appear to need one or more late season upsets:

5.) Iowa (13)
6.) Penn State (14)
7.) Virginia Tech (15)
8.) Wisconsin (16)
9.) Stanford (17)
10.) USC (18)

The BCS is supposed to only take 1 of TCU or Boise State, but I think they will take two. Oklahoma State is losing right now, but they will win and beat Oklahoma next week.

So, I don't see how everyone thinks the Big Ten is going to have 2 teams in the BCS bowls. If the conference does have two teams, it could just as easily be Wisconsin or Penn State as it could be Iowa. It comes down to who loses a game they aren't supposed to.

the only way USC make it into the BCS, is by winning the Pac 10 title and there no way in hell they winning the Pac 10.

SO USC 7 year bcs bowl run is over, over, over, over, over.

Based on what? Everyone else seems to think PSU/Iowa, or even wisconsin will sneak in to one of these.

Oklahoma State is currently losing, so that could open the door for someone.

edit: sorry, didn't read the last sentence of the original post addressing this.

The Cincy/Pitt loser isn't going and while I agree with you that TCU and Boise are both more deserving than one of the big ten teams you listed, its about $$ and ticket sales. PSU or Iowa would bring twice as many fans as well as a larger TV draw. Its unfortunate but its the same reason the Gophers always get screwed by the alamo bowl.

Bowls can take any team in the top 14 for an at-large berth. Iowa and PSU will be in the mix if one isn't a lock with a win on Saturday.

They will need pass on at least one team with a higher ranking.

No they won't. The BCS would take them over the loser of the Pitt/Cincy game in a second. Neither of those teams would bring nearly as many fans as Iowa or Penn State.

I'm not totally sold on including BSU (they knew their schedule was too weak to be in a BCS Bowl if a MWC team went unbeaten), but I know it will happen. The politics of keeping out an undefeated BSU two years in a row are not something the BCS wants to contend with.

If Pitt loses I could see them falling below Iowa/PSU. But I don't see how a 1-loss Cincinnati would fall from #5 to #13 or lower.

They don't have to fall below them. All Iowa and Penn State need to do is be in the Top 14, and they are eligible to be selected.

It is the same way the Gophers get passed for bowls. Championship game is only game that has to take 1 vs 2. Others take their tie-in and whomever they want in the top 14.

Hmmmm. If the bowls are willing to pass on a team with a better ranking, the Gophers can really only help their bowl position by beating Iowa. Because unless Penn State and Wisconsin drop a game - one of those two should be 14- (and I would think they would be equally attractive to a BCS bowl).

Wisconsin has two games left to play, and a win over Hawaii on at Prime Time on the West Coast should be valuable in the human polls.

I suppose it is not really surprising that a Gopher fan doesn't totally understand how the BCS works. I mean, why would you ever need to bother learning?

In theory, yes, a win could only help the Gophers. In reality, we're going to be the final Big Ten team selected no matter what, so it really doesn't matter.

Barring upsets in the conference championships, the BCS is almost set (Boise is in). The only remaining question is who gets the last spot: the glut of potentially 10-2 Big Ten teams, or a 10-2 Oklahoma State. The Big Ten is where the money is, so that will win out. Iowa is considered the clubhouse favorite, followed by Penn State, then Wisconsin.

Actually, it was one of your fellow ugly iowa troll friends who suggested an iowa loss would mean only 1 Big Ten team would be in the BCS and the Gophers would fall to the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl.

My Iowa friends are all beautiful, well-educated, and well-mannered people, Goldmember.

I think Okl will beat Okl State.

I don't trust them to win....but it is a toss up this year.
