Bateman Ranked #23 in National Player Rank by ESPN

Nice for Rashod! Pre-season All-American next Year?

Morgan too!

Hope we can find a way to handle No. 10 on this list. He is Epenesa++.

Didn't know this about Tyler Johnson:

The Gophers senior is the only Power 5 player to record consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons.
I wonder if that's because a lot of Junior WR with 1,000 yard seasons end up declaring for the draft, while Johnson decided to stay his senior year and graduate (which I loved, and hope more players on the team follow suit in the future)?

Yeah, not true. CeeDee Lamb from OK had 1,000 before the Orange Bowl last season.

Actually, it depends on if they are including the Big 12 championship game or not. That game pushed him over 1,000 last year. If they are excluding championship and bowl games then he didn't break 1,000 last year.

I have never heard of championship game stats being excluded. This is just a dumb oversight by ESPN.

Not saying that's what they did, just that that is the only feasible way (using their OWN stats, mind you) to get that statement to be true.

I agree it seems like a dumb oversight

per the link:

23. Rashod Bateman
WR, Minnesota
Sophomore
Preseason ranking: NR

The sophomore became the first Minnesota player to win Big Ten receiver of the year honors. A Biletnikoff Award semifinalist, Bateman has 1,170 receiving yards, breaking the single-season team record set by teammate Tyler Johnson in 2018. Bateman's 203 yards in a win over Penn State marked the most in TCF Bank Stadium history.

41. Antoine Winfield Jr.
DB, Minnesota
Sophomore
Preseason ranking: NR

Winfield dealt with injuries prior to this season, but he finally got a chance to showcase his ability in 2019. He made the most of the opportunity, bringing in seven interceptions, good for fourth among FBS players. Winfield also had 80 tackles, three sacks and a touchdown for the Gophers.

46. Tyler Johnson
WR, Minnesota
Senior
Preseason ranking: NR

The Gophers senior is the only Power 5 player to record consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons. He had the most productive senior season ever by a Minnesota receiver (1,114 yards on 74 catches) and needs one receiving touchdown in the Outback Bowl to tie the team single-season record of 12, which he set in 2018.

Go Gophers!!

Hope we have another young WR ready to step up next year. Losing Johnson this year and then Bateman after next year that's 2 amazing players back to back. I think CAB can step in the following year (will be a senior then correct) and hopefully they just keep reloading. Seems like there some impressive recruits the last couple of recuiting cycles (including this weeks) so there seems like a great chance to do just that. Very fun to see these coaches develop this position.

Given their track record with the WR position so far and the highly rated guys that have committed in recent years I like our chances of establishing a long run of strong WR play. Still feels strange to type that after the issues we have had with recruiting the WR position historically.

I have a feeling the offensive record book at the U is going to be completely rewritten over the next few years with what guys like Morgan and Bateman are doing. Hopefully this unit kicks it up to another gear next season as the vast majority of the offense moves into being upper classmen. Just need the defense to come along for the ride and we could be on the cusp of something really special here.

Reload, reload, reload better and better!

I bet Bateman and CAB come back a little bigger and stronger. I hope Demetrius Douglas can add a little more muscle and become a strong third option. It will be fun seeing which Freshmen or RS Freshmen also challenge for playing time.

Very curious to see what CAB does in a bigger role next year. He has shown some real ability but has been way overshadowed by the other two. Bateman is sure to draw a ton of attention next year so will be interesting to see if CAB is able to take advantage and have a great season in more of a featured role.

I agree! He has shown explosiveness when he has the ball in space. I am not sure where is speed is compared to Tyler, but he should be a threat that commands the defenses attention.
