Didn't put it together until the recent racial opinion spewed by Bankonit and the claiming of being a teacher. I do believe Loon also claimed to be a teacher and also was known for racial slurs which resulted in his supposed banning from this board. Welcome back Loon (Bankonit)! Good to see your still in the basement of your mothers house lurking on the internet.

I miss guys like Loon, Wren and Kelly Leeks. Sure Loon was a racist and Wren's rants would be book length and always negative and Kelly Leeks faked his own demise but those were the days when posts and discussions were a tad more lively to say the least. I also miss Bob. Where is Bob?

"You think he's gone? He's not gone. That's the whole point! He's never gone!"

Also, who was the "were coming out of the wilderness" guy? Was that Wren or someone else?

I doubt Bankonit is the Loonatic. Styles are not similar. Plus it appears bankonit knows how to use spellcheck. I miss the old Wren. The prototype is off the wall anti-Brewster on the Strib blog. Yet he is great historian of Gopher football. Both Loon and Wren cry themselves to sleep mourning the departure of Masonball.

Wren, Wrendahl, something revenge

I'm pretty sure that guy's name is Wayne and that he is still a gopher football season ticket holder. I think I met him once at the Metrodome, didn't seem like a bad guy had a wife and a couple daughters I think with him and he was a good Gopher fan. Wasn't at all the long winded fella you would expect from the post he used to write. He used to say things like coming out of the wilderness years. He was a real strong supporter of coach Mason.

He was a pretty pasionate or paitent Gopher fan. Seems to have taken on a weird persona or alter ego. Cannot recall what got him banned here other than he liked to "contrast" in his words the negative posters around here and kind of take people on a lot. Seemed like he went from defending the Gophers being 6-6 7-5 all the time to being weirdly positive and saying stuff like expectations are high Gophers should win 10 games this year with there easy schedule and "This Brewster" better win 10 games with all of the easy wins(I think that stuff actually was tongue and cheek and a little satire at times) Still think he writes on the star tribune site under the wren handle.

BOB39 is alive and well at the Gopher Illustrated site, still has his intersting spelling and write-ups about recruiting. He actually has been kind of positive on the recruiting front and seems to like Brewters staff's recruiting at least.

I'm not sure on the Loon although I thought he still post on Star Tribune, he was retired teacher from Canada, seemed really close to Mason and staff, really defensive of them and he claimed to help lobby for the stadium. He did have some weird racial rantings at times, I do seem to remember that, that and we argued about defenisve backs a lot. The guy I kind of wonder about is the Oldtimer "earl" that used to write about the peach sections and his sweetie. He was a good Gopher fan, still have not got the Rose Bowl for him though, hopefully he is still hanging in there. I used to like reading the Kelly Leeks character from Ohio, don't know what caused him to pull the "fake your own death stunt" and all of that. He was a poster that actually had some good football insight at times.

If only Mason had gotten another coaching job, then they could have put all their energy into supporting his new team. He probably could have gotten hired by a non-BCS school, but the BCS schools weren't biting. I just looked it up, besides Lou Holtz, the last Gophers coach who has had another head coaching job after leaving the Gophers was Fitz Crisler, who left the Gophers for Princeton after 1931.

Ya I souldn't have written Wren's rants were always negative...they were very positive until Mason got fired than they turned and I do miss his history lessons. Also, I hope Oldtimer is doing well. We need a history guy on this website..maybe like Monsignor from Buckyville.

Not to mention his unimportant little stint at Michigan after Princeton.

I think bankonit was trying to be sarcastic. It doesn't look like it worked. None of us are safe from posting without thinking first. As for Wayne Rendahl, he's from Winona and I've met him on several occasions. He's a nice, well-meaning man who maybe just maybe lacks some social skills. He was a huge Mason fan who supported Wacker to the bitter end. I don't know why he doesn't like Brewster.

I traveled solo to the Bowling Green game in 2008, and ended up sitting next to Kelly Leeks, who was also there by himself. This was shortly after he faked his demise, with Tipsy and Lloyd. Kelly didn't have any interest in returning to GopherHole. Tipsy/Lloyd are still roaming the tailgate lots on the West Bank.

A mere footnote to Princeton, I suppose. :D Athough the Ivy League was still a power back then.

It took me a moment to realize that this was the person for whom Crisler Arena was named. I think a lot of people assume that it is Chrysler Arena.

And naming a basketball arena after a football coach! Imagine that! ;)

I think he got banned because he hi-jacked every thread into an anti-Brewster or anti-Maturi or anti-"Prexy B" rant. The board quickly became unreadable.

You probably already know this, but he was also the AD at Michigan for 27 years (some of it overlapping with his time as head coach). Since they didn't have a new stadium built to name after him, I suppose they thought the new arena was the next-best thing. He also spearheaded the fundraising effort to build it, which I suppose is another good reason.

You think the new basketball practice facility (whenever/if ever it happens) will be named after Maturi?

Of course it will. They've got to finish the Ganglehoff Center for Athlete Enlightenment first

Lets not forget about Sorb while we are reminiscing about past posters.

Maybe in Memorium. Assuming he lives to 100, he might pass shortly before it's completed. :D

Sorb, FLA Fan

he existed under many aliases and claimed to be a big shot like C-note hawk(Dave in Apple Valley that calls Sids show all the time) another poster along those lines. I think SORBY still post under Big10Champs or one of those handles. You can detect his style in other post's.

Remember when

Flafan, Bob39, Oldtimer, ChinaGopher ....

Remember when you had to click on each post in order to view it?

I'm quite pleased that Wren and Loon (who I think were probably Mason's wife and son) have decided to move along. Same for Kelly Leeks for that matter. Any surprise why a guy who thought faking his own death on an internet message board would be cool ended up attending football games alone?

Ivy League teams were still pretty good into the 1950s and very good in the '30s. The AP football writer (pre-poll by a year) named Princeton as co-national champion with the Gophers and Southern Methodist in 1935 - Chrisler was coach. Later he went to Michigan and won a nat'l championship there.
