Does anyone else feel the band over plays the rouser. Every time we scored before a timeout, and the crowd was on their feet they would play it. Whats wrong with good ole fashioned crowd noise? Not saying i dislike the rouser or partaking in it but if they keep playing it 10 times a game it can lose any significance it currently has.

I don't think they played it once during timeouts last game, so it really varies from game to game. Tonight it was played a lot, but we went on a lot of runs tonight and Buonaguro was quick to call timeouts when we did, and they generally play the Rouser after a coach calls timeout to stop a run.

-100. I was at the Wofford game and thought just the opposite. Plus, would u rather have the rouser or another timeout "brought to u by Subway"

I was just commenting on how sometimes I prefer screaming and applause. I feel the rouser should be saved for big point swings, before half time and at the end of a victory so that when the barn is rocking it can really shake the opposing team up.

Tubtastic I would prefer an alternative song....perhaps more lady gaga?

The band did a great job with the Rouser tonight. It's perfect to play it every time their coach calls a time-out to stop our rally. Repetition gets into their heads. How can any Gopher fan hear it too much?

It was the Alumni Band at the Wofford game. I'm all for the Rouser, it seemed like last year they missed some opportunities to keep the crowd motivated and on their feet.

Wasn't at the game, but if they were playing the rouser that often, AWESOME. I think only playing it 2-3 times for the entire game is a bad thing, and would welcome anytime the crowd can stand up and cheer on our team. It's much better than the stupid Subway giveaways, TCF Gift Cards, etc...and you gotta think it actually pumps our guys up more than a letdown commercial would.

This is one of the worst threads I've seen.
Obviously you are not taking into account how much the Rouser pumps the crowd up after each run. It's called home field advantage.. It helps you win games.

This thread sucks...no such thing as too much Rouser
The more the better! The Rouser is one of the main reasons I walk out of the Barn with a hoarse voice after every game. The opponents have to be walking back onto the court with the chant in their heads - M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A!

The MN players have to love it too. It can get pretty loud when the crowd (or just the student section for that matter) is into it.

I agree with this. I have seen the advertising and never-ending encroachment of commercial things into all things Gopher and I am thankful the Rouser still reminds me of what college sports is all about. TCF Bank Stadium is overrun with sponsor driven contests and advertisements take up a HUGE portion of the big scoreboard. At Minnesota, this invasion seems to be more advanced than at other institutions. We have had "Cub" on the basketball floor for a long time now, McDonald's M's going down the stairs, etc. etc. The Wake Forrest game was on ESPNU just prior to the Gopher game and I noticed they have a huge "WF" tarp in school colors under their scoreboard (facing the floor), which looks kind of cool on all the court level TV shots. At Williams... we've got a tarp too but our's is orange and says "ARBY'S".

I guess if this avalanche of advertising keeps the lights on for some of the non-revenue sports... so be it. But it is a shame.

Anyway... I'll take the Rouser played a couple more times any time as opposed to more commercial stuff.

Hard to imagine the Rouser played too often. What I noticed last night was that the environment was pretty energetic for an early season game. Better game than we are accustamed to in the pre season, but maybe the Rouser pumped up the energy a bit, too.

The energy became a great factor as we started pulling ahead, and the band gets that going with the Rouser. Also, a hilarious thing the band does at crucial times is aim their instruments directly at the opponents' huddle during a timeout. It must drown out the coaches' instructions very nicely. Keep it up, band.

Agreed with those who said you can't get enough Rouser. No reason they can't play the Rouser after a big run. It gets the crowd (even more) jacked up. Plus, who doesn't like hearing the M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A chant? Gives me goosebumps! I can't wait until it gets deafeningly loud in there when we get some BigTen opponents in The Barn. It was rockin' last night and it wasn't even full. That was fun for a non-conference game!

Have you ever been to a Michigan basketball game? They play victors at least 30 times a game. CBS was making fun of it last year with a counter of the # of times they played it during one of their games.

Our band does NOT overplay the rouser.

For my money the band can play the rouser from start to finish. But, please knock off the crap and static that comes over that horrible audio system. If we have to be force fed rap, get a rap group and teach them the rouser.

We cant be nearly as bad as Wisconsin or USC. Those schools play their rouser after getting 1st downs

Ever been to a Michigan football game? It is non-stop Victors.

Or an MSU football game. The only song they know how to play is Falcone Fight ... I think they play it 3 or 4 times during their pregame show.

I'd like to suggest to the band that they play "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and then the entire student section can stand in place and rotate
