Endicott was having a difficult time celebrating. He had missed an extra point during overtime that could have cost Wisconsin the game and any shot at a potential national championship down the line. The Badgers' defense quickly earned a fourth-down stop to preserve a 23-17 victory and turn the miss into an afterthought.
When Endicott returned to his apartment, he checked his Twitter mentions. He and the family members staying with him that weekend were horrified by what they saw.
"There was one guy, he said drink bleach and kill yourself," Endicott said. "That was the one thing that I thought crossed the line. It got to me a little bit that night, but it was more so because my parents saw it, too. I think it hurt them a little more than it hurt me."...
Endicott soon made his Twitter account private in an effort to shield himself and his family from unnecessary distractions. He also said he was heartened by the response he received from many levelheaded Badgers fans.
"It's easy to sit behind a screen and type something out anonymously," Endicott said. "If people want to do that, that's fine. That's their prerogative. It doesn't really affect me. Initially I was a little upset. But then I was like, 'Who cares what Joe Schmo thinks on Twitter?' People can say whatever they want. But there's plenty of fan support on top that, too, which I think is more important to highlight. There's a lot of good people out there that go out of their way to say a lot of really nice things."
Endicott has made 10-of-15 field goal attempts, which ranks 12th among Big Ten kickers in accuracy rate. But he has bounced back nicely in the last two games, making both field goals against Illinois and all seven of his extra point tries against Purdue...
