Badger-Gopher Should Be Televised Nationally

If the networks and BCS people are listening, televise this game on ABC! This is the oldest college rivalry game, and Coach Kill and the re-surging Gophers are a national story.

ABC games are aired on ESPN2 outside of the region. ESPN is better. It's on in every sports bar in the country on Saturdays.
 

It is televised nationally ... on cable. Even it it was on ABC, it wouldn't be on ABC nationally - only in B1G country, and then on ESPN2 elsewhere. I understand that's not what you mean, but felt I needed to clarify.

FWIW, BYU-Wisconsin had 2.18m viewers on ESPN in the 2:30 timeslot. If we can match that it'll be our fourth-most-watched game this year (behind Michigan [4.42m on ABC], Nebraska [3.13m on ESPN] and Iowa [2.92m on ABC]) - source: http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/college-football-tv-ratings/.

But I do think we'll be well ahead of that 2.18m figure, probably in the neighborhood of the Nebraska game (given that Wisconsin hasn't been below 2m viewers this year, the BYU game being their low point).
 

It's been recited a few times on here, but for national viewership, ESPN > ABC regional I believe.

Not really, ABC regional games are typically the most-watched day games. Almost always the 2:30 ABC games have more viewers/better ratings nationally than the 11am or 2:30 ESPN games, per the link I shared above.

Now, that also is because the ABC games are typically better games...
 


Did anyone have issues with blackouts on DirecTV for the Gopher games on ABC? My parents claim both the Iowa and Michigan games were blacked-out for them.

Hmmm, I thought it was a matter of, if a game is in your region, yes, it's better to be over the air. But on the national scale, you'd want to be on ESPN because you're gonna have higher viewing potential since those other regions won't have it. But interesting that the ratings say otherwise, I stand corrected.
 

Love the Gophers, but we do not want this game on National TV. Point spread
is 15. It will be good if the Gophers hold it to less than 20.
 

I think the 2:30 time slot plus a game against Wisconsin should boost both the ratings and viewership. Here is a summary of the rated Gopher games from Gopher07's link:

I think the ratings and viewership numbers should approach the Nebraska game.

Being slightly superstitious I might remind you that ABC has not been good to the Gophers so far this year. Let's see if ESPN brings us the good juju!!! :p

I am no expert, game may have been on ESPN alternate sites
