In watching WI v IA, WI was not as good nor was IA as bad as originally thought. WI misses Leuer badly, as they don't have a viable, reliable scoring option after the still excellent Jordan Taylor. IA played man and zone, but when in man, they really pushed WI out 3-4 feet beyond the arc, forcing long, "tough shot" threes. WI is plodding but still effective if they can slow down the game.
Meanwhile, IA has the still solid Basabe at SF, the rapidly improving Cartwright at PG and White, the pure freshman, about 6'8" who has a nice inside/outside game. They also have Bryce Marble (son of Roy Marble), who will be a player in this league. Iowa can run. Now I can understand why they challenged Purdue to a close game in Iowa City.
Point is this league will have its share of upsets; road wins will be at a premium. Protecting Williams will be essential to potentially get to the Big Dance with 10 B1G and I have to admit that the Gophers will have to play very solid to beat IA on 01/04/12.
P.S.: Always fun to watch Bo Ryan swear and snarl.
