The plan was simple. After Indiana’s leading scorers and team leaders, Mackenzie Holmes and Sara Scalia graduated, the remaining players climbed a couple rungs up the ladder. Meanwhile Hoosier head coach, Terry Moren, found suitable fill-ins for Holmes and Scalia. The result may not deliver last season’s Sweet 16 appearance (a 75-79 loss to South Carolina); but the outlook is turning positive for the 7-4 Hoosiers.

Filling for Scalia was Penn State transfer Shay Cieski. Following a slow start, Cieski nailed some notable performances including: 34 points in defeating Baylor and a game saving 20 points allowing IU to escape Northwestern with a win. If her three point touch returns, Cieski will have been a near perfect addition.

Filling in for the concept of Holmes was Tennessee transfer Karoline Striplin. The idea appeared to be that Striplin and Lilly Meister would split time at the post. So far so good. And if they need a little post play instruction, they have access to Indiana assistant coach Mackenzie Holmes.

The Hoosiers will rely on seven players to extend their winning streak over Minnesota to eight games.

Above all is team leader Yarden Garzon. The 6’3” junior guard averages 15.8 points and 5.1 rebounds in 33.3 minutes. And she is crushing it from three 62-136 (.456). Garzon is proving capable of some “follow me” moments including 35 points (8-10 from three) in the win over Washington.

Sydney Parrish is a 6’2” graduate guard averaging 13.0 points and 5.4 rebounds in 32.4 minutes. Parrish is 24-60 (.400) from three. She missed five games (including one B1G game) early in season with an left knee injury. Parrish has returned to her reliable play including 15 points and 5 rebound versus Iowa.

Karoline Striplin is a 6’3” senior forward averaging 10.5 points and 3.6 rebounds in 23.1 minutes.

Chloe Moore-McNeal is a 5’11” graduate guard averaging 10.4 points and 4.1 rebounds in 32.5 minutes. The All Big Ten defensive team member can find the hoop (15 versus Nebraska and 18 versus Iowa) and her teammates for assists. She is 20-48 from three.

Shay Ciezki is a 5’7” junior guard averaging 9 points and 2.3 rebounds in 33.7 minutes. She is 11-32 from three.

Lilly Meister is a 6’3” junior forward averaging 6.0 points and 2.7 rebounds in 16.5 minutes.

Lexus Bargasser 5’9" junior guard averaging 2.2 points and 1.8 rebounds in 16.5 minutes.

The loss to Iowa meant Minnesota slipped a rung on the NCAA ladder. Indiana is a chance to regain some footing.

You know, as even the proverbial blind squirrel gets an acorn, I hope this is the game we make those missed shots from down low. We're due for a game with most bunnies and open shots falling.

Indiana is playing some really good basketball as of late and another team that will be looking to win behind the arc. Battle played JuJu on D really well, be interesting to see who gets the assignment to stop Garzon, but also can't be sleepy leaving the perimeter shooters open.

Gophers need this W! Rah!

3-pt defense looms large today. In BIG play, IU is first in 3-pt percentage and 3-pt makes. In BIG play, Gophers are 16th in opponent 3-pt percentage and 3-pt makes.

Ahead by double digits but keep chucking up threes and missing. Makes total sense WTH?

Who IU ? Lol, this did not age well. We have many offensive challenges but we saw today with improved balanced scoring Goldy can get the W.
I was talking about Gophers early in the game, had much better ball movement as the game went on. Hit a tough stretch at the end of the game. Defense was pretty stellar tho. If they could be consistent and shoot around 40% they have a chance of winning with that defense. But they really needed this one. Go Gophers!

Great win. They played great defense. Outstanding rebounding. Offense was up-and-down but got the job done. They stayed tough at the end and could have unraveled as IU tried to step up the intensity. Battle, Hart, and Heyer had double digit points. Heyer got another double-double (10 Pts/12 Reb).

Also a BIG Congrats to Mal who collected her 700th career rebound with her 7th rebound in today's game.

DEFENSE was locked after going down 17-11..

the refs took away the flow of the game for both teams in the 4th quarter, guess they needed to get a few more calls under their belts..

It was a good team effort today. Gophers seemed connected and played well as a team, good contributions and effort from the group today. Thought Sophie Hart and Anika Stewart were both great in the paint today, and really got after it, dominate rebounding.

This! Much needed win. Congratulations to Amaya Battle, I hope they present her with a 1,000 point ball next Sunday against Oregon. That is a great accomplishment.
Coach P will make sure that happens at the next home game. I hope they saved the actual game ball.

Other than "'Gophers Win", my favorite moment was Teri Moren calling a time out just so she could spend it in an audience with referee Brian Enterline.

Both coaches had some foot stomping moments

It was good for Rose to get some positive plays

Bryan Enterline will do that to a coach.....I cringe when I see him hit the floor at our games as part of the crew.
