B1G Championship Game - A terrible idea

I think four teams would be a lot better than what we currently have. I think eight would work as long as there is some advantage for being a higher seed. That's why I think the first round would have to be played at the higher seed's home stadium. It would be a huge advantage to be a top 4 seed then. Imagine if LSU or Alabama had to travel north to play a game in December. I agree with most that 16 or 32 would be too many and would water down the regular season.

On that we agree. The championship game is the better way to decide it, for sure.

Because Michigan St. didn't earn it back in October by winning the game and having a better conference record?

Under last year's system (no championship game), Michigan State would be going to the Rose Bowl right now. Last year is a moot point. With the addition of Nebraska (a move I applaud) the B1G is no longer under that system.

I haven't heard Dantonio or a single MSU player complain about getting the chance to play for the Rose Bowl berth with the advent of the championship game, and they'd certainly have the most reason to gripe after what happened last year. As someone who follows MSU football, I'm pretty confident Sparty is thrilled (for better or worse) the Rose Bowl berth is going to be decided on the field.

Holy Christ. So, we FINALLY get a CCG thanks to UNL joining the conference, and before it has even played some of you guys are already bitching about how pointless it is?! Really?

I like the CCG because it gives the B1G another week of relevancy prior to when teams go Bowling. And, certainly there will be national fans tuning in as well, regardless of the OP's comment that only fans in Wisconsin cares.

And this is coming from a guy that HATES the playoff idea. Like some have already said, this isn't the NFL.. If you want to watch playoff football, watch DII or the NFL. The only thing a playoff system does is weaken the meaning of what happens in the regular season. I love the idea that a team almost has to be undefeated to play in the National Championship game. The playoffs won't ruin that, but they allow a chance for a team to just barely get in the bracket due to some tiebreakers/poor conference strength and then run the table. That's a great scenario, but one that's already been done multiple times.

Anyway, I'll jump off that soap box. My point is.. The B1G having a CCG is good. Gives us another B1G game to watch.. Especially during the time other CCGs are going on.
