Jasmine Powell and
Sara Scalia have each earned All-Big Ten honors, the conference announced Monday.
Powell was named Second Team All-Big Ten by the league's coaches and Honorable Mention All-Big Ten by the media covering the conference. Meanwhile, Scalia was chosen Honorable Mention All-Big Ten by the coaches and media. In addition, redshirt senior
Gadiva Hubbard was tabbed as the school's Sportsmanship Award representative.
A consensus pick for both All-Big Ten Honorable Mention and the Big Ten All-Freshman Team a year ago, Powell is tied with Scalia for the team lead by averaging 14.5 points per game. Powell is third in the Big Ten and 19th nationally with her 5.4 assists per game, a figure that is on pace to be sixth best in program history. She is one of eight players in the country to average that many points with that many assists this season.
Powell is also recording 4.6 rebounds per game, second most on Minnesota, as well as 1.4 steals per outing. She's shooting 74.7 percent on free throws and 35.2 percent on 3-pointers, a number that ranks fifth in the Big Ten. Her 2.11 3-pointers made per game are sixth best in the league.
In addition to being tied with Powell for the team's scoring lead, Scalia, who was chosen last year by the media as an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honoree and a member of the Big Ten All-Freshman Team, is averaging 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game this year.
A native of Stillwater, Minn., Scalia is third in the Big Ten in 3-pointers made per game (2.75), fourth in 3-pointers attempted (132), fifth in 3's made (44) and sixth in 3-point percentage (33.3). She has also been a standout at the free throw line, making 38-of-42 shots there this year for a percentage of 90.5.
Hubbard is fourth on the team this year with 11.0 points per game, while also recording 3.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals per contest. Her 91.2 free throw percentage leads the team, while her 1.87 3-pointers made per game ranks ninth in the Big Ten.
As the No. 9 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, the Golden Gophers (8-12, 7-11 B1G) will open play Wednesday at 10 a.m. CT against No. 8 Nebraska (11-11, 9-10) on Big Ten Network.
