Go Gophers!!

I'm seeing a 9-3 win by the B1G.

Wins from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Penn State & Wisconsin.

How did the Gophers draw the 3rd place team in the ACC?? Gopher's will certainly be battle tested next year.

Overall I think it's a fair matchup. In all likelihood FSU will be picked to finish 4th in the ACC behind Duke, UNC and NC State.

Of the B1G's 6 road teams, other than Ohio State (@ Duke) I think we got the best possible matchup in terms of a quality opponent.

I see they did lose 6 seniors including 3 starters. I'm excited to be watching so much meaningful pre-conference basketball this year.

No doubt that between November 22-27 the Gophers will be tested to the hilt. ... the Battle 4 Atlantis immediately followed by the game in Tallahassee.

One would have to guess they will travel straight from the Bahamas to Tallahassee, probably on the Monday following the tourney. Looks like the experience they had in the NIT run could pay off, as they will likely be away from campus for more than a week.

Good opponent to showcase our squad against. The defending ACC champs are going to take a bad L in Tallahassee.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the U have a policy of not playing teams with tribal mascots out of conference? Or is it if the team has tribal approval, then it's all good?

The latter. The policy only applies to schools that are on NCAA sanctions b/c the mascot isn't approved. FSU has never had any issues b/c they've always had tribal approval.

Can't wait for those BC-penn St. and Nebraska-Wake tilts! I'll take Free Shoes U, a solid club, but one that's beatable.

I hope they do it. FSU was supposed to dominate the ACC in football (a weak football conference), and that hasn't been anywhere near the case. I suspect they'd fare even worse in the Big 12, a much stronger football conference.

The most powerful 64 football schools should align themselves into 4 conferences of 16 members each and break off completely from the NCAA.

It's going to happen anyway, just get it over with already.

8-4 good guys

Some interesting things I saw regarding us and the Big Ten/ACC Challenge in general on Wikipedia:

We have never played Duke, North Carolina, NC State, or BC.
We will have played FSU and Virginia 4 times each come November, yet we have not played another opponent even twice.
We are 5-8 in the Challenge so far.
We lost 5 straight from 2003-2007 after winning our first 2 and going 3-1 in our first 4, putting us at 2-7 in our last 9.

Iowa holds the record for longest running win or loss streak, having lost the last 6. They were ranked #15 for their last win, being over #21 NC State.
Northwestern and Ohio State are tied for having the longest currently running win streak at 4 each.
The ACC won the first 10 Challenges, the Big Ten has won the last 3.

Just to clarify - do you mean ever, or within the framework of the Big Ten/ACC challenge?

Probably means within the framework of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, especially since that is basically what he said:

Yes, that is what I meant. Obviously we just played, and beat, North Carolina back in 2010, before the poopstorm that was the Walker injury, Joseph mid-season departure, and Nolen injury. I think we also played them back in the '70's or '80's.

I tried Google searching various things to try to discover if we had played any of the other three teams before, and I would kinda think we must have played at least one of them at some point, but came up with nothing (when I searched "minnesota boston college basketball," all the top results were related to our Frozen Four matchup, so maybe buried under the hockey, our basketball teams have played at some point.) I wanna say our game with Virginia Tech last season was the first time we'd ever played each other, so it's possible that we have never played any of Duke, NC State, or BC in basketball before.
