not the best news, but better than 1.25 million previously.
OT: reading the comments on that StarTribune article, it is amazing how negative MN fans are of absolutley anything and everything. I have a feeling Jesus would get torn apart by MN fans.
Cuz that's analogous.
Let Tubby pay for it! How much does he get paid to coach a underachieving squad for a sport that maybe breaks even, after paying his salary. Unemployed = pay day because morons are in charge at this university! Oh, well, just pass it along to the students in tuition.
get rid of maturi and smith...the taxpayers can't afford this kind of incompetence.
The U and Tub of Smith were in the wrong. They really want to retry and spend that much more money on legal expenses when the outcome will be the same??? Just pay the guy his money and be done with it. I'm tired of the U of M and their pathetic major sports. Is anything with hoops on the up and up? Shady coaches with shady behavior. A U of Minnesota standard operating practice. We can all be proud.
it's time to ask questions: 1)Trevor Mbakwe was not found guilty of anything, but paid a heavy price under someone who was found guilty of something; 2)Royce White did not shoplift a million bucks worth of stuff, but paid a heavy price under someone who pulled a million-dollar stunt; 3) who's transgression was worse - Mbakwe, White or Smith? And the biggie: why is nothing happening to Smith to pay a heavy price for what he did?
You're sent to play ball at Dade CC, end up on an assault charge, jacked around by some attorney stringing you along--finally plead guilty, sit out a year. You shoplift, push down a security guard, you're arrested--an embarassment to the University--sent packing to Ames IA. Then--you attempt to hire someone who put the U in NCAA's jail, don't check it out, continue to string the guy along, cost the U $100s of thousand of attorney fees, plus an attorney settlement--you're OK, you're a "well-loved" and "highly respected coach," a "tough disciplinarian," a "high status hire" for a failed athletic director. I have to agree--Tubby Smith has turned out to be another poor Maturi hire, that just keeps costing the U.
That's the most difficult part about choosing to be a part of forums like this. There's a lot of garbage you have to sift through (think Wren and Loon in the old days) in order to get to the posts that are truly worth reading (Anonymous, Bleed, Coolhand, Holy Man, JohnnyG, Maximus & Mulligan are a few that come to mind). Too many times chat forums become a place of "one-uppance." Thank goodness for the ignore feature.
However annoyed we may get with each other on here, it is 1000x better then trying to wade through comments on the Star Tribune. That is brutal. The comments on this article only show complete ignorance of what actually happened by most of the expert commentors. Frankly, I don't really get why the Strib even thinks that was worth of a front page story. Whoo hoo the U's insurance company saved $250K. It's barely even relevant.
