Ticket Prices for BCS Schools (Miami-Florida added)

With preferred seating coming in another year, I thought I'd put together a running thread about season-ticket prices at other BCS schools. I'll update it as I come across other schools' season-ticket packages. These prices do not include any preferred/priority seating fees.

I'm using the highest per-game ticket prices, dividing the season-ticket cost by the number of home games -- including exhibition games -- included in the season-ticket package.

Per-Game Ticket Averages (some schools like the U offer only 1 ticket price)
(1) Kansas -- 19 games @ $66.05
(2) Miami-Florida -- 17 games @ $58.53
(3) K-State -- 16 games @ $40.31
(4) UCLA -- 19 games @ $33.68
(5) Texas -- 18 games @ $33.33
(6) Minnesota -- 21 games @ $31.43
(7) Seton Hall -- 17 games @ $30.11

Season-Ticket Cost (regardless of # of games)
(1) Kansas $1,255
(2) Miami-Florida $995
(3) MInnesota $660
(4) K-State $645
(5) UCLA $640
(6) Texas $600
(7) Seton Hall $512

Yikes...I know you haven't found all the schools yet so the U could drop farther but ugh.

We also have 3.5 million people in our market to draw from. Most schools are not located in major markets like this and need lower prices to fill their arenas. Williams Arena is always nearly full. No need to have lower prices and lose out on revenue. Simple supply and demand. If we move down to the middle of the pack in our conference for ticket prices, we then lose out on millions of dollars. Not very smart.

But we have to compete with the T-wolves. I mean if the Vikings affect the Gophers while not even playing on the same day, surely the Wolves do when they often play at the same time. Then again...

So, if I understand correctly, we are second lowest in price per game right now? Its a sample size of 6 thus far (not top 6 out of D1)? While the number of games is higher, thus driving up the total cost, I think average price per game is an apples to apples comparison.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see where we stand for the BCS schools.. I'm guessing not as bad as some folks think, but certainly top half in terms of price per game. Bottom line, people will always bitch and moan about ticket prices, regardless of where they are.

I agree. I look more at average ticket price than total cost. I haven't had a problem with ticket prices in recent years. The U has pretty much held the line on ticket prices for quite a few years.

My gripe has been about what we're getting (lack of quality) for that $31.43 per pop in the months of November and December. So far it looks like we've made strides in that area for 2011-12 (Virginia Tech, USC, etc.).

I think it is the T-Wolves that have to compete with us. And it isnt like we are struggling to draw because of the Wolves, we must average over 90% capacity. As long as the fans buy the tickets, there is no need to lower the price. Again, it is just simple economics.

I agree. I just worry that the donation plan is going to be a giant fiasco. I think they would be better off just increasing the ticket prices to get the additional revenue.

I agree that the donation plan will be a fiasco and I am genuinely concerned about the long-term impact it will have on the season ticket fan base. I have heard an overwhelming number of people saying they will just do a game-by-game purchase on the street which will really hurt the U.

However, the U can't just increase ticket prices. The BT gets a share of that if they do, and part of the incentive of the donation is that a portion is tax deductible. This is the only way to get this level of increased revenue.

A breakthrough season is in great need.

Go Gophers!!

I have mixed emotions on the donation plan.... while part of me thinks it may blow up in the school's face, part of me is excited because I will get better seats than I have now as I am willing to donate and my seats suck now (7 year ticket holder).

In the long run, they need to do this.. I just hope we don't suffer a sudden drop in attendance/atmosphere the first few years.

What do student season tickets price at anymore? Back in the early-to-mid 90s they were about $180 or so per season (which seemed pretty high for STUDENT tickets).
