Northwestern senior wide receiver Austin Carr has been named one of three finalists for the 2016 Burlsworth Trophy awarded to the nation's most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on. Earlier he was named a finalist for the Billernikoff Trophy. "The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football. Any player, regardless of position (tight end, slot receiver and back, inside receiver, wide receiver, split end, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. As such, the Biletnikoff Award recognizes the outstanding receiver, not merely the outstanding wide receiver"
Below is a list of Carr's accomplishments in 2016 thus far:
• Leads the Big Ten in receptions (75), receiving yards (1,102) and touchdowns (12).
• Six 100-yard receiving games (Career-high 158 at Ohio State on Oct. 29).
• Three multi-touchdown games (Career-high 3 at Iowa on Oct. 1).
• Averaging 8.1 catches and 117 yards receiving in Big Ten play.
• Tied the Northwestern single-season touchdown reception record with 12 and is on pace to set a new single-season yard mark.
• On pace to become just the third player since 1990 to lead the Big Ten in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns (Allen Robinson, Penn State, 2012; Desmond Howard, Michigan, 1990).
• The difference between Carr (75 rec.) and the Big Ten's No. 2 pass catcher (57 rec.) is same gap between No. 2 and No. 9.
• The difference between Carr (1,102 yards) and the Big Ten's No. 2 in receiving yards (793) is greater than gap between No. 2 and No. 13.
• The difference between Carr (12 touchdowns) and the Big Ten's No. 2 in touchdown grabs (7) is same between as No. 2 and No. 29.
