Attractive mid-major seeking burly BCS power for home and home

can anyone tell me what a "guarantee" game is? Is it something to do with financials?

Yes, to get a single scheduled game at home, not a home and home contract, the U must guarantee the traveling team X dollars. Arkansas-Pine Bluff (I believe it is) will sometimes play all of their OOC games away from home as cannon fodder, hence they are "guaranteed" money, but I am sure their athletic budget takes in a good piece of moola.

Agreed on the fascinating part, FTB. . .if there was a fantasy league where you could set up non-conference college basketball schedules (with a budget, necessary parameters, etc.) I think I would be down for that.

Yeah that is pretty fascinating. My favorite one: "Southeast Missouri State needs a largue guarantee. Dates are very open."

SE Missouri State is the girl at the bar at 3 a.m. who's laughing at all your jokes and caressing your arms.

Most striking is that WCC schools like St. Mary's and San Francisco are offering guarantee games. I don't think of mid majors offering them but taking them. There has to be a better way than this. Seeing all this helps to understand why it takes so stinking long to put a schedule together.

To continue in this vein...

All this has me asking the important question for the mid-major - which is of course, "Will you respect me in the morning?"
And clearly the answer is - only if you advance our cause by having a good RPI at selection sunday. Otherwise, well, it was fun at the time, but it didn't really mean anything...
