7.Sept. 3: TCU at Minnesota

There are few chances in the non-con this fall for the Big Ten to make a statement, which adds to the intrigue of this season-opening Thursday night tilt in the Twin Cities. TCU will be a top-ranked team and is an 18-point favorite heading to TCF Bank Stadium. The Frogs stomped the Gophers 30-7 in Fort Worth last fall but Minnesota is 1-0 against TCU in its home state — thanks to a win in 1974 in Minneapolis.

Go Gophers!!

I definitely think we belong at #4 on this list, but it's just another pointless offseason article.

I am actually impressed it made the top 10.
If you could guarantee a 1 possession game it would be 2nd or 3rd on the list. Most people assume it will be a 14+ point game, including me. If it is, it won't be on the top 10 best games to watch.

I'm not at all surprised that Athlon has resorted to listicle click bait articles.

of the non-conference? there's not a whole lot of other games that'll feature likely top 25 teams in that slate

I tend to agree, the web seems to be awash in Top 10 lists which are nothing more than 10 items in some random order with barely a paragraph to support the reasoning. It's all in a bid to drive up clicks for ad views. It's baseless and annoying. Rant Over.

When I think of "best games" I think of close games.

If the "best games" were simply a list of the teams with high ratings shouldn't all 4 Ohio state non conference games be on the list?

IMO no because the best games involve TWO teams that are highly rated, not one

So who is the second highly rated team in the Minnesota TCU game?

Depends on what you consider "highly rated". Your criteria of it needing to be a close game tends to limit things. So is Iowa vs Pitt high on your list? Rutgers vs Washington State? Most people would look at a combination of things: ranking of teams, channel, primetime, along with the chance of the game being close, etc.

As is every article ever written for any magazine?

Are they supposed to do stuff that doesn't get clicks? Nice business model.

How about writing an article with actual substance so that the reader is not only entertained, but more compelled to come back to the site? I sure as hell try to avoid these types of sites that pump out thoughtless listicles because they are a waste of time.
