7. Mitch Leidner, Minnesota 2016 Year of Eligibility: Senior

A foot injury limited Leidner in spring practice, but all signs point to the senior returning to full strength for fall workouts. The Minnesota native enters 2016 with 29 career starts and will be working under new play-caller Jay Johnson. Leidner posted career-best numbers in passing yards (2,701) and touchdowns (14) last season and added 270 yards and six scores on the ground. The senior has improved over the last three years and should have his best overall season in 2016.

Go Gophers!!

Will never understand the love for Tommy Armstrong. 52.2% completion percentage in the Big Ten last year.

Wow Mitch is the seventh best QB and he's first round material.

Hard to understand O'Conner either. He barely played last season. His stat line at Ohio State was something like 7 of 12, 1 TD in a wierd game. Mitch had better numbers at OSU with a worse offense. I'm not sold?

They also penciled in whomever is starting at Michigan, because Michigan. O'Korn was benched at Houston in 2014 and transferred. He had an ok season for an air raid type team in 2013. I guess I need to see it to believe it. Shane Morris happened, folks.

Leidner hasn't been pretty, but he's been effective. Someone needs to put this in his locker. Not that he needs motivation to get up everyday, but sometimes it helps.

A lot of recent love for Mitch by some experts, however, leave it to athlon to sh*t all over everything MN.

Why on God's green and blue earth do people still post things athlon says?

Independent of ML7, you are so right with this take.

I hope Mitch has a banner year, as I'm sure we all do, but much of his potential success is going to rest squarely on the shoulders of his receiving corps. Can we find a replacement for K. J. Maye? The Spring Game, and Coach Claey's comments postmortem indicate that the jury is still out. He can improve his throwing and reading defenses all he wants, but if his receivers can't catch the ball, we may have a long season. Hopefully Still, Lingen, Wolitarsky, and some of the new names like Hunter Register, will come through in the fall. (sorry for any misspelling of names)

I hope he has a banner year but sadly, the realist in me fully understands that past behavior predicts the future and what we've seen is what we get. The difference this year is Claeys. it is my opinion, that Claeys will keep a short leash on starters and the young ones better keep track of their helmets. best quote of 2015 game day posts. 'someone hide Mitch's helmet.'

Forget about Athlon's.....what does Street & Smith's and Lindy's think?

Saying you're a realist is like Fox news calling itself fair and balenced

He s a tough kid when Cobb was down he was the running game and paid the price.
A mediocre OL last year with a suspect DL lead to too many situations where again he had to put the game on his shoulders.
If the OL is better and the defense can hold with a much easier schedule he might have a really nice season.
Will it be enough to win the West only time will tell.

Hmmm... #7 B1G QB and #5 NFL QB prospect.

You get the sense that they put the names next to average order of finish the last five years and then make a couple adjustments if OSU is starting a freshman or something.
