Does anyone know how much revenue is generated from parking at athletic events?

Accounting aside, we have have the #15 revenue producing basketball program in America. I think it warrants supporting it by doing what it takes to build the practice facility. If only football was that highly ranked in revenue.

Not sure what Minnesota takes in but, whatever it is, the amounts are not reflected in the revenue figures sited. Most schools include parking revenue in the figures for the sport that generated the revenue; Minnesota allocates all parking revenue to the Parking and Transportation Department rather than the Athletic Department. That's why it's so difficult to make revenue comparisons between schools.

Minnesota also doesn't include premium fees for men's Football, BB and Hockey in the revenue figures for those sports.

Keep in mind that the U isn't just one big budget. The U's parking and transportation services department has to build, maintain, and debt service all parking facilities and therefore keeps the revenue from athletic events. That's their position and some of it goes way back to when a VP of finance effectively raided their reserves many years back to help the U's overall budget. They've been recovering from that ever since.

That's not to say I think they SHOULD keep all that revenue, but this is an ongoing internal battle within the U that continues to be a thorn in the side of the athletic department.
