Joel was out visiting Gopher fans this morning. Needless to say the HC topic came up and let's just say that Joel is not a good poker player. We asked his thoughts on Jim Nendel and he said he could not comment on anything to do with the coaching search or candidates. What I found interesting is that we never brought him up as a candidate, but based on Joel's response he clearly is in the mix. Should be interesting........

Well what other reason would you mention his name? I think anyone would understand the context of the name being brought up at all. Means nothing.

Is that spelled correctly? Jim Nendel?

I googled him--- can't find anything but a LinkedIn page for some guy who was a past chair for the Figure Skating Association.

A joke I'm just not getting?

No. It's just that he is a hell of a recruiter. He'll upgrade the talent level.

Plus the guys will skate their hearts out for him.

A lot of names have been thrown out as possible replacements for Coach Brewster. I'm going to throw out another one. Jim Nendel, Head Coach of the Porvoo Butchers of the Finnish Professional Football League. The Butcher's have won 6 consecutive National Championships, so it's obvious that the guy is a winner. He'd also open up a direct pipeline to all of the top talent in Finland. He runs a power running game and utilizes a lot of play action in the passing game. The Finnish style of American football would translate very well to the Big Ten.

In addition, Jim has a proven staff in place - many of whom would join him at the U, including
Atte Kniivilä, formerly of the Seinäjoki Crocodiles and Ellsworth Wheeler who was a standout LB with the 69ers of the Swedish Pro League.

How about we hire a coach who can help us win? Then the recruiting will come easy cause everyone wants to play for a winner.

Brewster was a great recruiter for Texas. Anyone can be a great recruiter for Texas because they win

That's funny, I happen to be viewing some photographs of Swedish 69ers right now.
