Sparty looked like they've packed it in for the season. Wish we played them right now instead of about 3 weeks. The way they're playing it's not likely, but I don't want them to generate any positive mojo whatsoever before they play us. It's a little surreal seeing an Izzo team that is so pedestrian. The Badgers have to be licking their chops.

Yeah seriously, they totally tanked last night. They were #2 to start the year...crazy LOL

There is no question that there are deep issues effort wise on that team. But this is Izzo- I've got a bad feeling they will come roaring down the stretch. They still have three players, Green, Lucas and Summers who can be great on any given night. Structurally- I don't think they have as many problems as us. They have a point guard and some guys that can shoot and Green has the heart of a lion. At the gut level their internal problems are making them worse than us for the moment.

At least we don't have Mike Kebler and Austin Thornton getting minutes.;)

I like our chances of making the tournament better than Sparty's, and that's saying something considering our current PG-less state.

I was going to start a thread with this very title.
At least we lost to a team that beat another ranked opponent last week.

I agree I'd rather be the Gophers than MSU for the rest of this season, but I don't think that makes the Indiana loss any less painful or pathetic.

I did watch most of the MSU-Iowa game at the bar and it was the best thing to happen to me last night. After the Gophers I was depressed but watching Iowa whip MSU made my night just a little better.

No argument here about the loss to IU. Painful. It just seems like every year the Gophers never win the type of game late in the season that can give them just a smidge of breathing room. We like to make it interesting down the stretch, that's for sure.

I'm not real optimistic about OSU, so absent a win over the Bucks the Illinois game will loom large. Back-to-back losses at home this late in the year could be a killer, especially with back-to-back roadies to follow.

Keeping it interesting is better for the fan base ;)

I think losing to OSU @ home is fine, as long as its competitive. If we lose to them and Illinois though were in some trouble because Illinois doesn't look as good at this point and they have not been playing great (they also lost to Indiana)

OK, let's admit. Al at point is a bigger factor than we ever thought. He is gone (for now?) and when Blake plays there (has to) we lose the fast break where he could beat others down the court and have open three's. That is over. That's the breaks. Maybe next year we have a real point guard, but when DJ left and then Al went out....that was all she wrote. Blake had great entry passes from the wing, but he is really struggling from the top.

I watched Texas play the other night and Cory J is a real point guard. For a freshman he is outstanding and really highlighted what a point guard does with four other strong players on the floor. I so wish we had someone like him, but we don't. Probably to his credit he stayed away from his brother. He distributed the ball and ran the team. He took one open shot from the top of the key and promptly took a seat on the bench.

So, we do not have an experienced point guard. That means the 8 players we do have are going to have to play with the intensity that we have seen from Indiana and Iowa. With the loss of DJ and then Al, it seems the air went out of the bag. Did you see Blake's response when he missed 2 free throws last night? He looked disgusted to me. The players complain about foul calls ( and no calls) and stand around to see if someone else is going to do something.

Tubby can coach and cajole and stare. If the players don't do a gut-check and play 40 minutes, we'll be talking about more "painful" losses. I hope they answer the bell.

Your dad must be pulling his hair out, or is he only a Spartan football guy? From the bowl game to this basketball season, it has been a long winter in East Lansing.

Those thinking Izzo is pulling another miracle are missing the boat in my opinion. None of the teams he "saved" went into Iowa and lost by 20.

The number of times they turned the ball over and had no interest at all in getting back on defense was unreal.

Yes, collegebbfan, all those people who thought Al was the problem with the team can see what life is like w/o a point guard. Those of us who suffered through Burleson at the point have never under appreciated Al's skill at bringing the ball up the court.
The team has a tough road ahead of them and not a lot of options for adjustments. They just have to play better, and make their free throws.
We have some pretty good reasons for struggling right now - but what is MSU's story? How can they look so bad?

Moonlight, is it possible that Izzo is pissed because Nadine is hotter after Bill Self than she is after him, and as a result has screwed him up totally?

If so, GO GOPHERLADY!!!

Yeah it is crazy. They were #2, and K-State was #3 in preseason rankings. Sparty is now 13-9, 5-5 in the B10, and K-State is now 15-8, 3-5 (and in 9th place) in the B12- and in both cases the wheels appeared to have fallen and continue to fall completely off the wagon. I still think K-State might make the tourney, but wow how the mighty have fallen.

Actually

Actually I would not mind being Michigan State. It would mean we were in the Final Four last year.

:clap::clap::clap:

Hey the way I see it is if we can go into Indiana and lose to a HORRIBLE team, maybe Ohio St can come to MN and lose to a HORRIBLE team.

Well Ohio State is looking pretty beatable in columbus right now...michigan up three at half

No, it's not just Spartan football he follows, it's all things Green & White, but naturally football and men's basketball are at the top of the list.

He's certainly not pulling his hair out (what's left of it) because of football. The Alabama shellacking in the Capital One Bowl notwithstanding, I don't think I'd call it a long winter in East Lansing because of the football team. They got outclassed by a team with superior talent, size, speed, etc. It happens. 11-2 and a share of a Big Ten title isn't anything to sneeze at.
