Now that we have a head coach, let's start discussing the next most important thing: assistant coaches. Will our new coach assemble a high quality staff? Anyone have any input?

I heard he's going for a "kill shot".

In all seriousness, I hope he does keep 1-2 guys around from the current staff. Tim Davis would be my leading candidate and then possibly either Hammock or one of the defensive staff.

Based on his comments, I imagine a couple of the current coaches might just stick around along with most of his existing staff.

The N Illinois fans are talking about Hammock for their next head Coach.

Tim Davis probably not as Coach Kills OL/OC has been with him for twelve years. Maybe Limegrover will just be OC.

As someone mentioned earlier, Matt Limegrover was the OC/OL under Kill at NIU. There's definitely room for Davis to stay on staff even if Limegrover comes along.

I'm of two minds on Hammock. He is clearly a great recruiter and I think most of us would love for him to stay here (especially with his NIU connections), but he will probably be a candidate for their open HC job, or even an OC candidate there or elsewhere. Rob Reeves, Kill's NIU RB coach, has been with him a long time, so if he comes along, do you have a spot for Hammock?

I think he has room for an OL coach (his OC is also the OL coach) and i would love to see him fit Hammock on to his staff.

I think they're are some good coaches on this staff, so I doubt they'll be begging for jobs after today. I'm sure there are a few who'd like to stay and some Kill will want to keep. Right now we have to wait to see what N. Ill.'s next move is. Will they hire one of the coordinators to be head coach?

I like what Davis has done this season. Wills is case in point. The lineplay was much better this season.

The 4 guys most likely to stay on staff in my opinion are
Horton
Ronnie Lee
Hammock
Davis

I am also of the opinion he will keep 2-3 guys.

What position would Kill's staff have to have open for Horton to have a shot at staying?

Absolutely no shot Horton stays, because Kill will not hire him as OC, and he will not be willing to stay as strictly QB coach, which probably won't be available anyway.

It seems like some NIU fans are a bit down on Limegrover, but it's hard to tell how accurate that viewpoint is given the tone of their board right now. They are understandably quite upset over losing their coach, a little bit of bitterness, anger and shock going on, so you have to try and filter everything they say through that. I tried to get membership on that board on that board yesterday so that I could converse with them directly, but my membership has still not been approved, so at this point I'm just going to bag it.

Crookston needs a new HC, but I don't think the pay would interest Horton.

We MUST keep horton. it would be nice if he could stay as OC and maybe coach the QBs at the same time. People say that there's no way horton stays, but I think the number of players that transfer and the number of recruits that leave would be cut in half if Horton stays. Horton's a great guy he needs to stay. Also, Davis needs to stay. He could probably find a better OL job elsewhere. Didn't he leave on his own terms from Alabama?

Horton showed A LOT more as the head man as he did as the OC. I commend the job he did, but highly doubt he will be back.

Why is everyone so worried about players transferring? Do we believe that they'll leave because of Kill? I don't get it.

Horton isn't going to be the OC. Kill's OC has been with him for years.

Davis was not an assistant coach at Alabama

He was on Saban's administrative support staff.

Kill will keep at most one current assistant coach. The rest will be his guys or outside hires.

Until NIU decides to keep and promote or release the coordinators, it is difficult to speculate who Kill will add to his staff.

While I am a native Minnesotan, my family moved to Colorado in 1976. I was 5 and lived there until I was 15. During that time my absolute favorite Denver Bronco was Steve Watson. He was a lot like Eric Decker - would completely sacrifice his body to make a catch. Anyway... I was stoked when he was announced as our WR coach this season. I think that he did a very good job this year coaching our receiving corps and would love to see him stick around.

Almost Kill's entire staff will move on with him to MN. The only coaches who I think might have a chance at staying are Butler, Davis and Hammock.

Davis would make some sense because he has done a nice job recruiting and developing players and there appears to be a built in spot for an offensive line coach waiting for someone to take over. Davis also would be able to add some experience recruiting at the BCS conference level.

Hammock might be able to get another job elsewhere that is better suited for him just because Kill's staff's RB coach has been with him forever and done a fantastic job. Hammock also some familiarity with some people on Kill's staff and would be another recruiter who his staff would probably like to add.

Butler, has done a nice job recruiting for the U, has strong ties to the state of Texas and has coached multiple spots throughout his career (LB, DL, special teams). I wouldn't be shocked to see some spot carved out for Butler.
