per Sid:

Ticket hire helps growth

Last April, the Gophers hired the Aspire Group of Atlanta to help their ticket sales, and the move appears to be paying off. The Gophers have raised more than $942,000 in new revenue since the week of June 15, when new ticket sales started. That total was raised through $814,000 in ticket sales and more than $128,000 in Golden Gopher Fund donations related to those ticket sales.

In terms of specific sports sales, the three main revenue sports break down like this: $264,000 in football ticket sales; $244,000 in men's basketball; and, most impressive, $306,000 in men's hockey. That total for hockey includes 324 full season-ticket packages, 260 three-game ticket packages and 371 group tickets.

Go Gophers!!

Does anyone know what this group actually did to increase ticket sales?

First off, I'm not reading into any article that Sid writes these days with any seriousness. The guy is too old is hardly lucid.

Second, all three of those sports are outperforming their records from last season. Could we finally be finding that economic secret that fans want to watch teams who aren't terrible? This is such a stupid assertion that I halfway expect some intern from the Aspire Group wrote it and gave it to Sid who copied it Verbatim.

You beat me to it PeanutButter. Getting to a Bowl Game, getting into the Top Ten and being ranked #1 will all shockingly have positive effects on ticket sales, go figure?! lol

A bigger question is how much are we paying them?

The alternate title doesn't sound as impressive: "Gophers' success on field/court/ice means more money in the pockets of Aspire Group"

Actually, it means more money in both pockets. You spend money to make money. A good move by the U.

Not necessarily. It may have actually resulted in a net cost the U. The commission paid is quite large and terms of the deal appear favorable to Aspire.

Two key follow up questions on this one. Can't tell from the cited article whether the revenue number of gross or net - if gross the question becomes whether or not the U will opt out of the contract. It was Maturi who pushed hard for this last March.

I Aspire for the team to get a few 6'8"-6'10" players who have future NBA skills to help them win more games and by some coincidence they would sell more tickets. Does that new company assisting ticket sales have any big kids?

You do know this board is for fans of the Gophers, right?

mattw, sometimes the word fans fools me with the incessant insults and immature name calling directed towards our Gophers here on GH.

Yeah, i hate having a top 25 team too. What a horrible coach....

They are winning inspite of him...I have never seen an offense so utterly confused that they stand at half court for 20 seconds before they even start their offense. 6 yrs and the same crappy offense. Tubby needs to go or they need to bring in an assistant that knows offense. Could be ugly next year with Trevor and Rodney gone. Out vaunted bench that we ran line changes for is straight out balling right now

So all of the players on the court just magically appeared and started winning with no credit to Tubby? His offence may not be the best, but he has brought this program into a very good position. His defensive game plan, recruiting, and development has allowed this team to succeed. There is no way you can look at this year and deny that.

I love how people just completely ignore the periods where our offense was moving the ball really well and we were just not hitting outside shots. There are games where I get really annoyed with our offense, but today is not one of them (other than not hitting open shots).
