This article focuses mainly on the opening on Izzo's staff and the relationship that Dawkins has with Green, but it does mention that Dawkins intends to talk to Tubby as well:

Michigan State isn't the only spot Dawkins could land. He played at Tulsa for Tubby Smith, and talk started almost immediately in Minneapolis he could join Smith's staff at Minnesota.

But while Dawkins said he intends to talk with Smith, as well as Izzo, he didn't have a job set up when he decided to leave Saginaw.

"I've got a great relationship with a lot of coaches out there," he said. "When I decided to step down I told a few coaches, but I didn't have any confirmation from anyone.

"I'm going to send my application and resume to almost every opening out there."

Go Gophers!!

An "in" to the state of Michigan would be huge. I've always thought that the Gophers could put together a big time squad if they could keep the top Minnesota kids home and steal a player or two a year out of Michigan and/or Illinois.

Worked well back in Dutcher's days and through Voshon Lenard for Clem. . .I believe Lenard was the last top recruit for the Gophers from Michigan, but could be wrong.

I am not sure about this, but I believe Darrell Whaley was from Michigan too. I don't know how highly recruited he was, but he was on the front of the program for a game I got to attend in his only year on campus. I remember the guy wore high socks and had good hops, but that's the extent of my memory of him. Did a quick Google search and found a page "lost letterman" asking for info on where he is now.
