Arne Carlson votes for John Anderson for AD, Flip and Lindsey for BB coaches

Let's hire a girl 2(?) years removed from playing in college for head coach! As little I care about girls hoops team, this is preposterous.

While we're at it, let's hire Tyrone Carter for football (assisted by Laurence Maroney, Marion Barber & Adam Weber), and Brock Lesnar for wrestling and Neal Broten for men's hockey, with Kevin McHale, Dusty Rychart, Hosea Crittenden, Trent Tucker and Russ Archambault assisting Flip. Who cares if some of them have no coaching experience. They're all Gophers. That's all that matters. Let's just make it one big, happy Golden Gopher affair. Rah!

Anderson as AD, I could live with that, though I'd prefer the U hire someone from the outside. Flip and Lindsay (not that I care a great deal about Gopher women's hoops), no offense intended, but no thanks.

As much as I like the Flip idea, I wouldn't put much stock in anything this flake says.

Do people ever realize just cause someone is a great player, doesn't mean they're a great coach/GM/owner/AD/whatever else besides playing the game?

Of course, beyond the fact that she might be a tad busy, you know, making money playing the sport still lol.

great. that's all we need. Another nonrevenue sport centered AD.

Like the idea of Whalen though.

John Anderson gets it. heard him on the radio the other day. He said the key at the U is getting football and basketball programs strong- that pays for everything else. Not saying I endorese him in particular - but he understands what it takes.

Actually it's a great idea (the woman is actually eight years removed from college but likely would not take the pay cut).

The preposterous idea is John Anderson. Everything that's wrong with Minnesota Athletics is embodied in the idea that we should hire a career non revenue sport coach as our AD simply because of his loyalty to Gopher sports (What else does he bring to the table?). If that's the best we can do we might as well keep Maturi. Or God forbid hire J. Robinson.

And of course he understands Basketball and Football pay the bills. That is what he has been living off for the past 20 years. Maturi understands that too but look at the results.

while I wouldn't complain if Flip was our coach I just don't see what he brings to the table that Tubby doesn't, if you're gonna make a change, which won't happen for atleast two years ago, might as well go in another direction Tubby and Flip are apples to apples

Oh Arne. I know you love the Gophers, but use it to help out at the capital or write a check instead of playing school President.

There's no doubt Lindsay would be a great choice to be the next WBB coach, but what do you mean take a paycut?? Borton makes $500K per season. Doubtful that Whalen makes that kind of money playing in the Czech Republic and the WNBA.

Whalen is about 8 years removed from college. I dont think the highest paid WNBA player makes $100k. Not sure what she makes overseas. As the poster above stated, Borton makes over $500k. So it would be a big pay increase. And I believe she has been doing a lot of coaching during the offseason. Not sure where I read that, but I know I did.

I think Borton makes around $300K and I'm not sure that Lindsey makes that much between her two teams. Anybody who has ever heard Lindsey interviewed knows that she is a cliche machine. I'm not sure that she is glib enough to walk into a recruit's living room, especially someone from outside of the state, and sell the family on the charms of the U. Then again, I think that has been one of Borton's many problems.

Last I checked, no money for the new baseball stadium has been raised. John Anderson may be a nice guy and a good baseball coach but if he can't raise money for his own stadium how is he supposed to take a position where 75% of the job description is finding money.

As stated earlier, Borton makes about $500K. And, doubtful Whalen makes that kind of jack playing in the Czech Republic and WNBA.

But, anyone who has spent time with Lindsay away from radio interviews knows she is about as funny and engaging as anyone. She could recruit. She knows the game. She'd clearly create excitement again for the program.

You may need to re-check. They've raised about $7 million, will present a plan to the Board of Regents in May, and will have a shovel in the ground in June for the new stadium.

Well, in all fairness I suppose John Hines and WCCO should now provide James George Janos airtime to weigh-in on the matter. One can only imagine what scenario he would conjure up!

Shows how much I care about women's hoops...

I once stole the ball from Lindsey Whalen in a pick-up game at the rec.

+1. i like john anderson, but no going to lie that was one of the first thoughts that went through my mind as well. want a football and basketball centric AD.

Say what you will, at least she hasn't proven that she CAN'T get the job done.

I'm glad to be wrong on all of those counts except Borton making more than I thought.

I still think the hire will be and should be made from the outside.

Lindsay Whalan or any pro athlete would never retire in the prime of their playing career without injury to coach because believe or not pro athletes even highly paid ones have a love for the game or some external motivation and typically want to extend their careers as long as possible. Most coaches who were players only become coaches once they're told they can't hack it as a player anymore. Plus before getting a B1G job you have to prove yourself in that profession, either by winning at smaller stops or being a top assistant
