Carson says he was told upon committing to ASU that he could wear jersey No. 1. It was his grandmother's favorite number, he said, and it holds special meaning.

He said he was disappointed to learn that ASU freshman guard Corey Hawkins is wearing No. 1 this season.

But asked if he would look elsewhere if he didn't get his favorite number, Carson answered, "That is a possibility."

Go Gophers!!

hahaha, i mean idk the whole story that might be close to his heart but it sounds imature, gophs have #1 open, come on up to minny sir

If I may be so bold as to say, if that is what keeps a recruit from coming to the Gophers, please go elsewhere. I think NDSU has #1 available. Right lakesbison?

It isn't about the number, it is about ASU being dishonest with a recruit. What else did they like to him about?

It's about dishonesty? Who's to say the other kid won't give up the number when Carson comes around? Who's to say the other kid will even be on the roster next season (ASU has a lot of xfers under Herb)? It seems like a pretty petty reason to decommit from a school. Too many people are offended about stuff like this that doesn't even really matter. You said you wanted to play there, so take whatever number you can and live with it. You don't get everything you want in life, no one does. Grow up, Jahii Carson.

A strong coach would rescind the scholarship offer and tell It's All About Me to seek one elsewhere.

I'm actually in Phoenix for the Arizona Preps Fall Showcase. Carson is playing here and is one of the top players in the event. I talked to him Friday night and it seems like the story was overblown. I think that he was just wanting more love from the coaching staff.

I got a chance to talk to Trent Lockett and Chanse Creekmur yesterday, while watching thier practice. Creekmur was sick with the flu and didn't play. Lockett looks good and should have a good sophomore season.

It is strange being in the West Coast time zone. The Gopher game started at 9 and the NFL games kicked off at 10. Tonight's Viking-Packer contest is at 5:30.

The other weird thing is that the Arizona state Fair is going on right now. It runs Oct 15 to Nov 7, much longer than Minnesota's 12 days of things on a stick.

Carson just won the Arizona Preps Fall Showcase dunk contest and was named the tournament MVP.

I follow both the Gophs & ASU. The hissy-fit rumor about Jahii Carson seems to have been just that. "rumor'. I have been able to trace it as far back as to a UCLA blogger. Any hint of weakness in the Sun Devils program will trigger many University of Arizona fans can get a dig in to the Sun Devils and they did so with this.

All has calmed down. Sounds like Jahii will be signing a LOI on 11/10/10.
