per this update from Scout.com. From the article:

The Gophers made an impression on an Arizona quarterback with their Insight Bowl appearance, so Colby Kirkegaard is keeping Minnesota as one of his top college options. GoldenSports.net talked with the QB on the Gophers’ radar and got his impressions.

Playing in the Insight Bowl last December brought Minnesota some western exposure. Colby Kirkegaard, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound pro-style quarterback out of Arcadia High School in Phoenix, Ariz., noticed this and he liked the idea of possibly being a Gopher one day. Although he doesn’t have any offers yet, he has recently been considering what Junior Days he might attend.

“I have been invited to Junior Days at Arizona State University, Alabama, and UCLA,” he said.

His experience in Minnesota was a good one. When asked what his early favorites were, he said, “I was definitely really impressed with Minnesota and Colorado.”

“I saw the new stadium, which looks awesome, and I was blown away by Dinkytown,” Kirkegaard said.

Colby’s mother grew up in Minnesota and attended the University of Minnesota. Even though the weather would be far different that what he currently experiences in Arizona, he can look past that and focus on the advantages.

“It would be a neat experience to play in Minnesota because I have so much family up there,” he said.

And there is another Minnesota connection. The quarterback coach that Colby works with several times a week also has ties to the recruiting coordinator at the University of Minnesota.

Kirkegaard had 14 touchdowns and 1,655 yards last season as a junior.

Go Gophers!!

Kirkegaard?

Can our offer to Nietzsche be far behind?

Oh come on, with a name like that, he'd be PERFECT in Minnesota!!!!:D

Seriously though, his film looks pretty good. Physically, he's a little too skinny and needs some time in the weight room. Throws a nice, tight spiral and displayed pretty good touch imo. Also has long legs and while he isn't very fast, looks to be pretty nimble and can cover quite a bit of ground. Seems to be comfortable out of the shot gun and on the move out of the pocket as well.

I was concerned with how many of his passes floated though. Probably due to loss of mechanics on certain throws. Looks like a decent prospect and if he wants to come to the U, I'd be more than happy to have him!!!!

Has strong arm but mechanics are actually terrible. Throws off his front foot and kicks his right foot into the air with every throw to get a little oomph on the throw. Not the way to do that.

i should point out that those were highlights of his SOPHMORE season, so throwing off the front foot might have been to make up for the inexperience as a sophmore. if i can find his highlights as a junior we can sompare his progress.. i haven't been able to find highlights of his junior season yet, but when i do i will post them.

I agree that his mechanics look messy, but I believe that QB's should throw off their front foot - beats the crap out of throwing off the back foot.

If the kid has the tools, mechanics can be straightened out. Thats coaching, and from now on with good recruiting, he will have a redshirt yr and maybe more before he should get a legitimate shot at playing.

i was thinking about his mechanics and i think he gets the "baseball" type throw because that he is also a pretty heralded catcher for his high school baseball team.

does anyone remember if mauer had a similar motion?>
