Go Gophers!!

Not a single 4 loss team in the top 25, and yet 5 loss Arkansas is the first team out.

I wouldn't want to play Arkansas right now...their front 7 on D is brutal and their Oline is coming around. I hate Bert as much as the next Gopher fan, but I don't think they are over rated in the AP.

Man. We complain about literally everything.

Who said I was complaining? Arkansas just seems like a strange case. It seems like they've been talked about as a legitimate team, and yet a little over a week ago they got their first conference win in over 2 years. At that point, it looked like there was a decent chance they wouldn't get bowl eligible. Are they a good team that has just happened to play a lot of very good teams, and so they're better than their record indicates? Is it just SEC hype? I admit I don't watch a ton of college football outside of the Gophers, and I don't think I've watched Arkansas at all. I just think it's interesting that a 6-5 team is receiving so much national respect and is knocking at the door of the top 25. If the Gophers were 6-5, I wouldn't expect them to be on the precipice of being ranked.

I would also say I don't complain as much as a lot of people on here. I don't take shots at players, I have never complained about Limegrover, I don't harp on Leidner.

One team who is under rated, Colorado State. One team who is dead in the water, Mississippi.

My two cents: We should be around 18/19 or 20 at the lowest. Okay with 22, but don't think it is correct. Believe the College Football Playoff committee will see it more my way too when the only rankings that matter in the end come out on Tuesday evening.

Marshall, Colorado State and Ole Miss are rated too high. Marshall and Colorado State should definitely not be ahead of Minnesota. Would even make an argument that you could put Minnesota ahead of Ole Miss (who I believe has completely shot their load already) and perhaps Georgia Tech. Some of the voting media and some of the voting coaches got it wrong there. If I am not mistaken, Marshall has beaten only one team this year (Rice) who currently has a winning record. They should not even be in the top 25, imo. Undefeated or otherwise. Their competition/schedule is terrible. Colorado State I will give a bit more credit to for their schedule.

Otherwise, I am "okay" with the breakdown of it.

I see that loss to UNI a few weeks back cost NDSU their three votes. Pretty pumped to see us at 22, the CFP rankings have been more generous to us, so I am curious to see where they have us.

It's the eye test. Arkansas has just been on the cusp of breaking through. Their defense is playing awesome. They are the first unranked team "ever" to shutout back to back ranked teams. Their losses to #1 and #4 came down to the last possession. My wife is a fan, so I'm a bit obligated to watch them.

Completely agree. That's a VERY good 5 loss team. I'd be saying the same thing right now if they had 4, 3, 2 or 1 loss(es). Additionally, if the Gophers were 6-5 they wouldn't be sniffing the rankings because that would mean likely several more losses in the B1G. The B1G is NOT the SEC West. That difference in quality does, in fact, matter.

OK, here's my two cents:

1) Maybe Minnesota is better than Marshall, Colorado State, and Ole' Miss. Maybe the Gophers aren't better than all three of them. I don't know and I don't care. I watch football for entertainment, not for validation of my fandom.

2) Ranking football teams isn't a science where people study for years, take certification exams, and have continuing education requirements. It's an art where certain people are assigned to vote (mostly to keep fans happy) and make an educated guess by consulting some sources and by following others' educated guesses. My guess is that few, if any, of these voters have actually watched all of these teams for any concentrated period of time. My guess is that you haven't either. As far as weak schedules, Marshall can only play the regular season schedule available to it and that's the way it's going to stay unless you think the Big Ten should expand to 20 teams and the other power conferences should also absorb the lesser conference teams.

3) Politics and maintaining the interests of diverse stakeholders will never be divorced from this exercise. They feel the need to spread the recognition around. And that doesn't really bother me much at all. It's just entertainment.

I believe they are favored on the road at Missouri. A 6-5 SEC team is favored at a 9-2 SEC team.

Colorado State #22, don't we have them on the sched next year?..

At Fort Collins, but they lose their QB.

And he's very good. They'll take quite a hit when they lose him. They won't drop off as much as SJSU who lost pretty much everyone but they won't be sniffing the rankings next year.
