i know there was talk that he might visit with tcu. it was good to hear that 4-star WR james green committed to minnesota today. would be great if green and hawkins were in mpls together for the next 4 years........

If hawkins stays our WR corps looks very good. Plus I believe McKnight by the time he graduates will be pro material. And then there's Green1, who is very dependable. And stoudemire, who is a ? to me right now, but no doubt very talented. And then the unexpected disposition of Gray, who if goes the way of McNutt and others ends up as a WR. It's pretty monster if you ask me. Now if we could just get them the ball.

ha! no kidding. therein lies the key. ;)

p.s. you better stay with minny chris hawkins. be unique amongst college football recruits by being a man of your word!

I'll never get too excited about "potential pro material" talk after 4 years of waiting for Ernie Wheelright to live up to those expectations, although he somehow spent time on an NFL roster.

Stoudemire could be the face of the team if he could get his head on straight. He exemplifies how overrated the Rivals * system with his *** ranking.

Troy would be alot better if he could run good routes. that goes for McKnight as well. BGreen seems like our best route runner and has the best hands behind Decker and that is why i think BGreen is going to be the #1 WR next year

I wonder how much room there is for Troy at WR. Especially if Hawkins stays, Bryant Allen is pretty much the same kind of dynamic play maker. Maybe he goes back to CB?

I have to admit that I've had the same thought about Stoudermire heading back to CB.

I was disappointed by the route running all season. I realize there are a lot of younger guys running those routes and that's part of the problem, but I also wonder if Fisch's system contributes to it as well.

Former Green Bay Packer head coach Lindy Infante used to have this offense where the receivers made as many reads as the QB and that in certain coverages, both the receiver and QB were supposed to make automatic adjustments to the routes. Given the Packers' success (or lack thereof) during the Infante years, it's obvious the system didn't work for beans.

There were instances this season where Weber and the receivers were so far out of whack that I figured something along those lines was going on.

Stoudermire

I've posted on this before. I'm not sure how his pass coverage skills are but he is one heck of a tackler. He is awesome on special teams. He is quick as a cat and I think he would be great at corner ... a position of need in my opinion.

I think Stoudamire will definitely move to the defensive side of the ball. He doesn't run great routes and has suspect hands. I'm not sure how his coverage skills are, and if they are suspect, I wouldn't mind the idea of him playing S. He is a bit light (10 lbs lighter than Theret) but the kid can tackle and gives us the speed we have lacked in the safety position.

I also think Brandon Green is the #1 receiver

Remember that Stoudamire only played a couple of years of HS f'ball. He's really just learning.

I think he is saying Troy is better than his 3 star ranking not worse than his 3 star ranking

I really, really hope we can hang on to Hawkins. I'm not an expert talent evaluator but you have to love his offers. Hopefully a Brewster extension would convince him to remain committed.

That's exactly what I was pointing to. He's a head case, but a highlight reel performer. He's a good football player, regardless if he's lined-up at receiver, returner, or on the coverage unit.

If he isn't the most exciting player we have returning next year, who is? Although 20 years ago a guy like him was hazed back into line.

whoa! take it easy there big fella. one heated sideline discussion with an assistant special teams coach (of which the assistant coach was partly at fault for forcefully getting in his face like he wanted to fight troy) after an emotional sequence on the field does not make a young kid a "head case". one will recall that the refs stupidly flagged stoudermire for fair-catch interference even though the ohio state player had failed to put his hand up signaling fair catch. understandably stoudermire was upset with this call since it was still a close game at that point. the assistant coach completely disregarded that fact and still got right up in troy's face and cussed him out in front of his teammates which was not cool.

calling him a "head case" is a very strong choice of words with which i do not agree at all, but it seems to fit your usual approach. that is unfortunate. feel free to disagree.

I don't think he is a head case but believe he sometime losses focus. He will be more focused and be even better as he becomes an upperclassman.

This a an interesting point. I've wondered similar things, there were a lot of times that Weber honestly looked baffled at the receiver's route running. This could also help explain why they keep sticking with Weber. I'm probably grabbing at straws, realizing Weber is back next year. I need hope that he will be better!

interesting that you should bring up wheels. I see alot of him in McKnight except McKnight is both rawer and more talented. I also thought Wheels did very well as a senior, if that's all that McKnight gets to that's not to bad. I know many don't think much of McKnight because of the dropped balls, and I can't argue with that since college ball is riddled with guys with promise that never develop. But when I consider his size and the fact he didn't start playing ball until his junior year in HS, I see great upside. His focus failures are pretty typical of newbies. Running before the ball arrives, not ready for the speed of the ball and play. Things that will be corrected with reps and experience.

Just trying to give an opinion here since it is starting to head off topic, but it sounds like Chris Hawkins is as good as gone..... I will, however, take a green for hawkins trade any day. Let's hope they pull a miracle and convince him not to end up at TCU, but it is almost a done deal from what I am hearing.

It sucks we lose Huff, Smith, and now most likely Hawkins. Disappointing.
