Anyone heard anything about his game? He's a mystery so far, though he did appear to have a good 3 pt. shooting stroke in the scrimmage.

The first thing I heard Tubby comment about Oto in a while was after the game today, according to the GopherHole post game story:

"They need a guy like Oto, who's a 6'8" shooter; they just don't have that kind of player. Noted they have recruited players like that, "but they're not here.""

Go Gophers!!

he might end up in front of Rodney unless RW figures out a shot other than a dunk

I was gonna say, if he can shoot, he'll find himself a spot on this team, especially since we won't have Blake next year.

Not with a coach like Tubby. Only if he feels Oto plays better defense than Rodney, will he play ahead of him.

I totally agree. Rodney has been guarenteed a starting spot. He did nothing except garbage time. He does nothing off the ball. Other than his defense and a nice vertacle, he is a bad player. Why not sit him to send a message?

No question we need shooters. We only have one guy other teams have to respect on the perimeter, and he's graduating after this year.

The comment from Tubby that Bleed already shared is the ONLY thing I have heard about Oto. In the past we've heard quite a bit about guys sitting out the year most of it overwhelmingly positive (Trevor last year, Terrence Simmons), so I am not sure what to make of the lack of Oto notes.

It should be noted that the Gophers will have Oto, Eliason, Walker, and Halvorsen (don't expect him to play much, walk on transfer from Valpo) all eligible to play next year.

Heard he was beefin' up his game at pick-up at the Rec earlier today, my buddy said haha

On Tubby's 'CCO Radio show Monday night - Tubby said Oto was playing tOSU's Diebler on the Gopher Scout team last week and was lighting it up on the practice court in prep for OSU.

Oto can join a long list of shooters who have enjoyed playing against our perimeter D.

:clap::clap:

We have helped discovered more stars than American Idol this year.

A tall, athletic shooter... Love the sound of that.

O yeah he was there. I played him in a game or two. Obviously he was playing against rec competition but he showed great athleticism and a good touch from inside with good 3 point range as well. It would be nice to have a "tweener" player like him right now.

See what happens when we don't have a practice facility?

An update from Marcus this morning on Oto:

I had a chance to talk with Elliott Eliason and Oto Osenieks after practice. They've both added a lot of good weight and muscle this season.

... Osenieks added nearly 20 pounds since he got here when he was 6-8, 200.

An already big team might get bigger next year. Rodney may play the 2 quite a bit if Oto can play well.

Oto was sent to the rec center to scout for a back-up pg better than Mav.

Jokes aside, I really hope we can get a Juco to back Andre Hollins at point next year, Mav is a better than expected, but still should be a 3rd string point next season.

Played with him at the rec yesterday...Best possible case is he is the next JAS. He does have a good stroke and good range but isn't overly athletic by any means. His best asset is his pump fake, he probably did that 7/10 times he touched the ball.

With the abundance of SGs we have in the lineup? Tubby would have to be completely insane to play Rodney at the 2 for any legitimate stretch of time.

I pray Rodney doesn't play the 2 guard next year.

We will have a plethora of "2" guards next year. Unless Rodney dramatically improves his outside shot his best spot is the 3 or even the 4 if we press more next year.

Better 2 guard options will include Chip, both Austins, and Coleman. If the one hollins can play the pt there are still 3 legitimate shooting guards here. FYI he averages 3 assists in high school. I know centers who can average 3 assists. I hope he can make the change.

No reason to play Rodney at sg. Austin will play there and Rodney will play sf.
