Gregory Howell and Rashad Canty were both talking up Minnesota after the win. Frank Ragnow said it definitely changed his attitude (why NW/Nebraska/Indiana didn't do that I don't know)

Was he at the Nebraska game? Maybe finally seeing it in person made the difference. Or maybe the continued win streak just showed him the other games weren't a fluke. Encouraging to hear either way though.

Not sure I'm doing this correctly but....

I don't pay as close attention to football recruiting so this has probably been discussed already, but would we take commitments from Herrod and Howell? Do we want them both?

It's a worthwhile question and dependent on a few factors:

1) How do we feel about Jeff Jones? This one is the most obvious. There is room for two runningbacks in this class, but three is excessive under almost any circumstance. We could certainly interpret the heavy pursuit of multiple runningbacks as less than positive on the Jones front.

2) How position flexible are they? I've done a little research on Howell and the only reason I can think of him not being more heavily recruited is that he's on the bigger/slower end for a back. Coral Gables is hardly off the football radar, and statistically he's blown up this year on a really good team (that once produced Frank Gore and Jonathan Vilma). Lack of speed wouldn't preclude him from operating in this system, as we've seen, but it's probably just as likely that he or Herrod are at least being considered at linebacker.

3) Would either greyshirt? This would certainly be a convenient scenario to deal with the Jones decommitment scenario, and while we'll probably end up with closer to 18-20 scholarships this year when it's all said and done, we'll have even more next year.

One does not turn down studs like that.

Reading some tea leaves, I think we're in a really strong position on Gibson, Canty, Gregory, Herrod, Blasingame, Martavius Mims, Julien Kafo, Mike Thomas, and Christian Russell, assuming they all qualify.

That's 9 spots right there, which would probably leave us about 1-3 more for Ragnow, Hill, Deron Thompson, Craig James, Stephen Louis, and/or anyone else that comes along.

Deron looks like a game changer. I hope we can sign him.

Ran into a kid from Alaska (with family) in a local restaurant named Matt Overkamp. 6-5 250 and I think playing TE in hs. They were down on an unofficial from Anchorage (and visiting relatives). He seemed to be really enjoying it and his mother said Jerry really seems to like him. At least he shouldn't need to get acclimated to the cold.

I'm not doubting either player's ability, I just figured it was possible that we only wanted two running backs and would hold one for either Herrod or Howell and the other for either Jones or Thompson. Wasn't sure though. If one of them could switch to linebacker or something then it makes it less of an issue. I'd image the staff has a limit to the amount of players we want at each position.

I saw Jerry Gibson at the airport today. I told him he'd look great in a gophers jersey next year, he smiled and said thank you sir.

Anyone know what position Gibson is expected to play in college?
