Anthony Tucker Arrested Again

3rd strike in a year and a half. Iowa can't buy a break as of late, other than having a run of good prep players coming through the state.

Sucks for him. This is the one problem we don't have to worry about since public intoxication isn't a crime in Minnesota.

I'm beginning to see why Iowa folks go absolutely nuts over having a good football team. This Hawkeye team is woefully undermanned as is and now it appears that Tucker is either going to be suspended, kicked off the team, or just quit altogether. It's really quite amazing the quagmire that Iowa basketball is currently in.

True. But he'd be charged with "underage consumption" (MSA 340A.503)

How will Todd Lickliter make it out of that labryinth?

I thought he might be the guy who got the job here before Tubby Smith came out of nowhere. I remember the common lists of candidates including Flip Saunders, Rick Majerus, Tony Bennett, Todd Lickliter. Wonder what he's thinking about the move now? It's nice to expect 4 wins in conference play against Northwestern and Iowa, but it would be fun the have another relevant border battle.

I hope for two wins against Northwestern, not sure if I expect 2 W's. Iowa is in bad shape and I truly expect to win both of those games.
Northwestern should have an interesting season, Iowa will have one that they will soon hope to forget. How good does Alford look today?

I understand that Northwestern is good this year, I was generalizing recent history.

Who would you have hired 4 years ago, Lickliter or Alford? I would have been content if Lickliter had gotten the job here had Tubby Smith not fallen into our laps. My preference at the time based on known candidates was 1. Tony Bennett 2. Rick Majerus 3. Flip Saunders 4. Todd Lickliter. At the time it looked like we couldn't go wrong with any of the four, and all four seemed like realistic candidates. I bet Majerus and Lickliter are wishing they'd got a shot here.

Majerus was not on my wish list at all. I had Flip at #1.

IMHO.

why would they boot him?

doesn't Ferentz's kid have at least two 'minor consumptions/public intoxications'?

How messy do you have to be in Iowa City on a Saturday night to get arrested? I mean, it's a drunken mob after the bars close.

it's a drunken mob after the bars close.

The Iowa people have argued (and I think with some validity) that for that exact reason, there appears to be some IC cops that simply target male students who look like athletes. Let's face it, in Iowa City there just aren't that many 300-pound students, nor are there all that many black students. So, if a cop sees either, he's got a good idea that he's just nailed himself an athlete. The officers apparently keep a running tally back at the shop. Just the opposite in Madison, where they simply call up the head coach and tell him to send over an assistant coach to come get his player. In Iowa City, they apparently are going after the kids. I mean do you really think in Madison or Columbus or Gainesville or Tallahassee if the head football coach's son is caught with an unopened 12-pack of beer that the kid actually gets busted? No way.

I for one don't buy the notion that the ICPD targets 300 lb black athletes and that a running tally of their arrests is kept back at the cop shop.

What IC does have, and NateDawg alluded to it, is a high concentration of bars near 25,000 college students that allow 19 yr olds inside. And while its not legal to serve them the 21 yr old that is sitting at the same table is legal and more than happy to procure drinks for the underage patrons. My guess is that the ICPD has their hands full with all the belligerent drunks not just those that happen to be athletes.

I'm sorry to say, but Northwestern looks better than the Gophers right now. The Cats are 9-1 with wins against Notre Dame, North Carolina State, Iowa State and Stanford. I don't know why you would expect to beat them twice.

And, in Tucker's case, it appears the cops were simply responding to a 9-1-1 call from the cabbie that Tucker was getting into a scuffle with. So, no doubt they were not targeting him in this case, nor his other one when someone found him passed out in a back alley.

But, I will say, no way does a 19-year old get written up for having an unopened 12-pack in his car if he's the head coach's son in State College, College Park or College Station. Or, in Norman, Austin, Tuscaloosa or Tucson.
