...short, but thoughtfully and logically written.

The only other thing of note is this quote:

"Curley has deemed Penn State’s membership in the Big Ten a “win-win” situation.

Penn State has won 19 NCAA championships since 1993-94, the Nittany Lions’ first full season in the league. It’s more than double the number of the next two Big Ten schools on the list, Iowa and Minnesota, each has nine, according to Penn State’s sports information department."

How about that...

Cue the "nobody cares about water polo and women's rowing" jokes...

Curley doesn't take a leak before checking with JoePa first

This quote is ironic:

“It’s not a question of just bringing somebody in that you’re just going to kick around,” Paterno said last month. “It’s a question of bringing someone in who can handle the academics, the research, AAU schools, people with a commitment to the women’s sports, a commitment to all sports programs, a commitment to the ideals of what intercollegiate athletics should be all about.”

Hasn't Paterno been lobbying for east coast patsies like Rutgers or UConn so he would have another team to kick around? And while its nice that JoePa is saying all the right things about academics and stuff, I had heard that when PSU was admitted, there was an understanding that Penn State needed to beef up a lot on the academic side, and put in a bunch of new libraries and facilities. They've always been a very solid technical/eng'g school, but back in 1990 their liberal arts, not so much.

It also got me wondering. Say for arguments sake that Minnesota wasn't currently in the BT. Would we be considered a desirable expansion candidate given the state of our football program over the past several decades?

How we've been in football isn't terribly important in regards to getting into the Big Ten. The fact that we're in the (approximately) #15 TV market in the country would make us an extremely attractive candidate.
