Partly cloudy High around 60! Despite the ugly game last week I kept pinching myself because of how nice it was to be at the bank watching outdoor football on a glorious Saturday afternoon. Now if we could mix in some good football... tailgating can't start soon enough!

Reminds me of the Cal game last year (except for all the likely negative chanting, booing, despair, and anger vibes in the stadium). It does look like great weather and I am hoping against logic that the Gophers make a statement early and hang with the Trojans. Stepping up early should quell the boos and chants. We know the problems with our squad. It should also be noted that USC is not your father's USC this year. If they were in the Big 10, they'd likely be regarded in the standings predictions to be on par with Michigan State and below OSU, Iowa, Wisconsin, and probably PSU. Michigan State doesn't sound nearly as frightful as USC. They didn't overwhelm either of their first two opponents and both of them (Hawaii and Virginia) are pretty average.

On the other hand... certainly waaaaaay better than South Dakota.

I wish I was tailgating. I will be bringing another load of kids so the party factor will be at a minimum for me for the second week in a row.

You can still tailgate. You might not be doing bong hits with the kids, but you can start them on the tradition, teach them the fine art of BBQ and the importance of preparation. Plus, it's great to take kids for a tour of the campus, Dinkytown and Stadium Village.

I should clarify... my parking is in the Oak Street ramp. I would prefer a tailgating lot but I don't want the added step of taking a shuttle since I have kids with me for half the games. So, I have settled into a pattern where I hit the bars when I go with adults prior to the game, and catch more of the band/cheerleaders when I go with kids (skipping the booze). If I was in a tailgate lot within a few blocks of the stadium, I would tailgate with the kids, no doubt. The donation fees for the closer tailgate lots are just too steep considering I probably wouldn't be tailgating each and every game, and I am not in donation seats in the stadium. I would really like it though.

Whatever the final score if you don't enjoy watching games at Gophers Stadium then you are missing out on something very important in life.

Yeah, it was supposed to rain as of yesterday, but now it looks really nice. 60's a tiny bit chilly, but that probably only works to our favor anyway.

Wish it was a little warmer for the Song Girls. Watching them strut around in track suits will still be glorious, but not as good as their standard attire.

I think you may underestimate this SC team. They are young, and thin due to defections/freak injuries, but the starting talent is incredibly deep. the feature 5star guys across all skill positions. Robert Woods, true frosh, will destroy carter/collado, and it won't be pretty. if the gopher D can't pressure Barkley, it's gonna be trouble.

SC offense was great week 1, and so so week 2. SC D was horrid against the hawaii spread, and then much better last week against a more traditional attack. they gave up 7 points until that minute in garbage time.

the issue with SC this year has been conditioning and poor tackling...very reflective of the dramatic change to their practice regimen...there was no live tackling in camp due to the lack of depth. This has taken a toll, but most expect them to improve. But don't think that this offseason has robbed SC of their talent. Barkley/Havili/Tyler/Bradford/Baxter in the backfield will give this defense fits. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Kiffin came out in a 4 or 5 wide set and just started throwing in a 2min offense right off the bat. They have 3 WRs 6-4 or taller.

ummmmmm... did I miss the part where I underestimated USC? Did someone slip me a mickey, take over my keyboard and make it look like I was predicting a Gopher victory?

They are currently ranked in the high teens or 20, depending on what poll you look at. That would have them regarded below OSU, Wisconsin, Iowa, and only now just above PSU in the Big 10. After losing to a middle-of-the-road FCS school, ANY top 25 team looks like they are in another universe compared to our lads.

I could have sworn that I said I was hoping against logic the Gophers could hang with USC.

Or, are you saying the rankings and on-field results so far are not indicative of how good USC is? Should they be in the top 5?

Meh. While the comfort level of the weather will be nice.. I'm actually hoping for an anomaly of 25 degrees and snow. Would be awesome to see those Cali-kids deal with THAT. Haha!

No matter the weather, I'll be behind their bench barking at their players.

I was happy it rained last night. I hope for a lot more rain before Saturday. On a wet field athletic superiority doesn't mean as much.

Yeah, but if they keep taking the poor angles for tackling they have been the first two games, a wet turf won't bode well for the home team lol.

This is BOGUS!

We're tossing out fresh meat on defense with all the new faces for USC to make dance like puppets.

The least, LEAST, they can do for us in return is provide the Song Girls with their classic sweaters. If I have to hear their band play the same 3 songs over & over all day long (trust me, they'll be put in your head for the rest of your lives), track suits are UNACCEPTABLE!
