Another recruiting tool for coach Fleck? The city of Minneapolis?

I think it helps a little, but what would help more is if it was one of the world's most college football obsessed places or was home to many people with vast wealth.

Wouldn't help the people of the Twin Cities a bit, but would make the Gophers better at football.
Lake of the Isles comes to mind.

It was an interesting read. I thought it was based on some sort of statistic or study of the populations happiness. But it is based on numerous factors chosen by The Institute for the Quality of Life that SHOULD make the populace happy. Would be interesting to know if that really translates to real happiness.

I wouldn't call Lake of the Isles vast wealth.

That said, I think it's like most things in life. I'm sure there are some people that love the idea of going to school in Minneapolis and it's not a perfect fit for some people. It's not a traditional college town - for better or worse.

Much in life is about perception. With that said, there is much to like about the city of Minneapolis.

Edit: There are more than a few players that have stuck around because they thought that it is a great city to live in or near.

To be honest I wouldn’t want to be a dead rat in Minneapolis or any any other metropolitan area.. The traffic drives me nuts..
I appreciate your honesty. Having spent time in greater Vancouver, I can understand your point. Somewhat like Vancouver you don't have travel very long to get away from the city if you are in Minneapolis. To each their own.

Appreciate the Vancouver mention; a wonderful, but very expensive city.
Makes part of Downtown Toronto look affordable. Thankfully BC Ferries are very efficient. Not the most convenient way to spend commute time, but it does make living "around" Vancouver doable. Still quite expensive. Sunshine coast is awesome!

And as you said, travel to get away is very close and convenient....Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton, Lilloet, Hope, et al

Every time I see an article glowing about the Twin Cities, I have to check the comments for the same group of mostly outstate politically motivated trolls intent on destroying the city one misguided internet post at a time. I just truly hate all the unnecessary divisions that exist everywhere now.

Literally every tik tok that happens to include the new state flag or view of the Minneapolis skyline no matter how innocently will have multiple posts by the same people, doing what they can to create negativity. It’s like Pantherhawk but focused on our cities instead of the Gophers.

"It's like Pantherhawk" is a great way to describe the current situation

My dislike of MPLS is the high tax rate, especially downtown. 3.00% "entertainment" tax downtown is too much!

Love old Vancouver, but the city has dozens of unimpressive identical high rises in the downtown area that reminds me of what they did in Soviet Russia back in the day. Pretty ugly.

I totally agree. Hundreds of multi story high rise condos that basically are Soviet era style. Love the Gastown District tho.

Stanley Park fixes many ills! And, Haida Gwaii (where totem poles come from) is a couple/ few long ferry ride(s) away.

Yeah, there are some ugly buildings like that, but recently, they’ve built many good looking ones.

When I hear Soviet era architecture I think of the fugly apartment skyrise near the UM West Bank. Is it called Cedar Riverside or something like that?

I assume you mean these? Used to be called Cedar Square West (Negative slang name "Crack Stacks")?

Riverside Plaza. With that said the Red Sea is near by and home to great music and decent Ethiopian food. Other bars are near by as well. It's basically the West Bank.

I'd be interested to see how it compares to Columbus, Oh stats wise.

Yup, those are the ones.

And then there is the group of people, also politically motivated, who cheerfully sing the refrain of "nothing to see here" when others dare to notice things like police precinct offices being burned to the ground. Any negative comment about that must be questioned as "politically motivated" I guess. You do realize that you are contributing to the divisiveness when you put a label on everyone who negatively comments on things like that, right?

Vancouver is much worse regarding driving around the city. They essentially have one freeway and it runs along the outer eastern edge. Trying to get to the University of British Columbia is just a mess and you better take the Skytrain downtown. In addition you should never own a car bigger than a Toyota Corolla if you don't want to lose your side mirrors due to the narrow city streets and lanes.
It's an absolutely beautiful setting to live, but terrible to drive in.

Locally it's known as Little Mogadishu.

I can only think of one (The third precinct) and it was the entryway. Is it perfect? No. Much to improve on. However there are so many great things. Still a great city. That is what it comes down to. Whether you like the cities or not.

Now? Maybe. Like Swede Hollow in St. Paul, it has been many things at many times. Minneapolis actually used that as an example of why you DON'T want to concentrate poverty.

Anyway, I highly doubt any players will be living there. Trust me there are many places in this country that are much worse to live in.

Fair, I get it. Traffic can get old anywhere. Like central/ western Europe, I'd take that problem (Vancouver's streets) anytime. I found Montreal to be more problematic streets/ congestion wise. Vancouver is close to many things. The route to Banff alone is worth it.

I agree that it's a great city. We can still enjoy it while expressing concern about its faults. Are we really at the point where we say "it was only one that was burned down?" Geez. Either way, my objection is people who take issues with others who notice faults as being "political."
