Per a Marcus Fuller tweet-

Gophers pretty high on two recruits to play PG next season: Julian Welch and Martyre Demarco. But going juco with Welch seems better fit.

Looked up some stuff on this guy, rumor is he transferred for his senior year because he wasn't getting the type of college offers he was looking for. The information I have found has linked him with low level D-1 California programs such as UC Irvine. Plenty of game footage of his available on YouTube as well.

Doesn't exactly sound promising, but I'll hold my judgement. I'd like to at least have a quick guard or one that can shoot threes, but who knows if he's improved since then.

Looks like we are poking through junk yards for PGs again this year.

Lol, I think I would agree but maybe would put it differently. I think we have a need that has to be addressed now, not in a few years as we wait for someone else to develop. If given the choice I'd take the Juco recruit and hope for the best.

I don't think it’s appropriate to refer to a young man who plays basketball as part of a "junk yard".

Did Estan Tyler already sign his LOI? I'm a Johnson alumni so I was hoping he'd get a shot with the U.

I'm not talking about the young man. Not at all. I know nothing about him. There are hidden gems in junkyards, it's just rare.

This kid appears to be the desperation option, probably around 5th on the potential point guard list.

Yes, he signed in the early period.

PS - FTB - I am trying to get to the best in the galaxy this afternoon... for a freshman girls game. And will hopefully stay for the varsity. My buddy coaches the team that will be visiting the best today... I don't know if I have ever been to a frosh girl game and I'm worried about what I will see. If for some odd reason you'll be there, send a tweet or something.

There was mention on an earlier thread about the pg from Williston. Any more info on him?

Clipped From Old (2008) Article On Demarco

Martyre Demarco doesn't limit himself. He says he wants to be a 7-foot point guard. He figures there's really little else to do during his final three basketball seasons at Shadow Mountain but win state championships each year.

And he wants to be the best player in the NBA some day.

Yet, there is no arrogance to Demarco, a humble, hard-working kid who makes A's in school and isn't caught up in the AAU showcase hype.

Instead of playing on a club team this week in Las Vegas, Demarco is visiting his mother in California.

That's not to say Demarco isn't a gym rat.

He is.

He has spent most of the summer working out with one of Shadow Mountain's most famous alums, Mike Bibby, who led the Matadors to the 1996 state championship, before helping the University of Arizona to its first national championship his freshman year in 1997.

A year later, Bibby was the second overall pick of the NBA Draft.

Demarco might be the best pure point guard to play at Shadow Mountain since Bibby. And he's only starting his sophomore year.

Last season, as a freshman starting on the varsity team, Demarco averaged 17 points and eight assists.

"He's really put a lot of time into trying to make himself the best," Shadow Mountain coach Cain Jagodzinski said. "He'll work out five hours a day."

Demarco, who is 6-foot-3, went to New York this summer for the Five-Star Camp where he was named Most Valuable Player.

"I'm very confident in what I can do as a player," Demarco said.

Demarco moved with his father from Los Angeles in the seventh grade.

He learned that Bibby played high-school basketball in the Valley and Demarco made sure he went to the same one.

Shadow Mountain hasn't hung a championship banner since 2000. Demarco was 7 years old, and pushing the ball up the court.

He said he started playing when he was 4. He's never lost focus.

In the meantime, he dabbled in baseball and earned a second-degree black belt in tae kwon do.

"That helps your mental discipline," said Demarco, whose martial-arts passion has given way to hoops in the past year. "When you are in pain and everything is going wrong, you keep it inside and try to figure out how to make things better."

Bibby has helped make Demarco a better player this summer inside Shadow Mountain's gym.

"He's taught me how to handle pressure," Demarco said. "I'm still pretty young, but I'll be getting a lot of attention from other teams' crowds. There will be hecklers. You have to play through all of that, know how to block it out."

Demarco is ready.

The college letters are coming in.

And it's never too soon to think big.

"My ultimate goal to be in the NBA, and be the best player in the NBA," Demarco said.
