My favorite line from the article:
Prater had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelled strongly of alcohol, according to the police complaint. His blood alcohol level registered .127, according to police.

Prater reportedly told the officer that "the bartender must have put alcohol in his Coca-Cola," according to the complaint

LMAO. That is a phenomenal quote. Does that mean he is claiming negligience and is going to try to plead to a lesser charge?

You guys seem a little too quick to throw stones. Dom Barber ring a bell? The problem is this kid is young. He made a mistake and he will not see the field next year, Ferentz was quick to point that out. To say Iowa has run a clean program without arrests the past few years wouldn't be accurate but it has changed. Previously, suspensions had been a slap on the wrist, even within the basketball program. The athletic department has really begun to send a message and it bring change, maybe later rather than sooner.

Kittens or Mittens or what ever the hell your name is. Check all you want on Dom Barber, you will find nothing. If your going to throw a name out there asshole, at least use the correct name.

Dom Barber does ring a bell, in the NFL.

Cripes, I got the name wrong, ok. I was trying to make the point that Iowa has been cleaning it up lately. I thought Dom Barber was the name of the player who a few years ago got into trouble for sexual assault. You guys probably don't remember because it seemed to have been swept under the rug.

Swept under the rug? That's the 2nd fact you just whiffed on. Even the kids who were never charged with anything got kicked off the team.

Are you referring to Dom Jones?? If you are, he was kicked off the team and out of school immediately, along with his cohorts. That's why you haven't heard much about him. It had nothing to do with being swept under the rug. In fact, he was swept right out of the program.

If you're not referring to Dom Jones, then I don't know who you are talking about....

I'm sure Dom Barber wouldn't be happy you got the name wrong. If you want to talk smack at least have the facts straight. Actually it wasn't swept under the rug. He went to jail and actually on the news the other day they showed him being released.

Why are you hear tonight to talk up Iowa anyway?

it kind of keeps iowa in the news......iowa is one of those states that you just kind of never hear about or know is there

Wow mittens, you don't pay attention to much, do you? Nowhere in the article did ferentz say he would "not see the field next year". It said, "He will be required to serve numerous internal obligations, set by me. He'll also face a multiple game suspension in the fall."

he will not see the field next year, Ferentz was quick to point that out

Hmm, we must've been reading different articles. Only thing I saw was "multi-game suspension," code for 2 games.

2 games ≠ season

You now are officially the dumbest poster on this site--by far.

C'mon Guys....

While no one wants to beat Iowa and Wisconsin more than me, I think Ferentz is a good guy and a very good coach. This stuff can jump up and bite any program. We have certainly had our issues over the years and there is a very good chance it will happen again. Running a D1 football program is full of player risks and no one is immune......not even Notre Dame and USC. Wink.

It still blows my mind that this program has not had an arrest since March 2007....unless I missed 'em. For how undisciplined we've been on the field, there's been a lot of discipline off it. Won't last forever obviously....but its been a good run.

"I was very disappointed to learn of Kyle's poor judgment," Ferentz said in a statement. "Kyle will be expected to complete counseling and educational requirements, extensive community service obligations and game suspension prior to returning to the field."

Iowa City Police Sgt. Mike Lord says Calloway cooperated with police and acknowledged he drank seven or eight beers.

Calloway, who will be a senior next fall, has started 25 straight games for Iowa. He was listed at starting right tackle during spring practice.

Not sure if it was after before or after March 2007, but didn't WVDS get arrested for getting in a drunken bar fight? This stuff happens everywhere....

ummm, yeah but its definitely happened fast and furious down in Iowa City and has no signs of abating (especially with the "hard nosed" approach Ferentz has taken). I think Captain Kirk has learned how to discipline from the SEC. Nothing is getting in the way of wins for this coach. Check the Fulmer Cup standings. Iowa is currently in 7th with this latest arrest sure to move them up.

Define 'SEC discipline' and then give an example of it at Iowa. Just looking for some accountability.

I think I defined in the post. Nothing can get in the way of winning. An example of this is how Kirk continues to minimize issues and slap players on the wrist. A specific example would be his twice arrested son. If any time you would be hard on a player it would be when its your son yet he seemed to be more upset about what the media said instead of coming down hard on the players. Wow, suspend the players for the remainder of spring practice. Very tough disciplinarian.

What would you suggest the penalty be for a player who gets "arrested" for underage possession of alcohol?

hmmmm......let me guess which "sisters of the poor" OOC game he gets suspended for?!?! northern iowa or arkansas state? take your pick.

wow, you are a real class act coach ferentz.....apparently the inmates are "running the asylum" down in ioweeee city these days. what a joke! :pig:

One arrest for a petty misdemeanor since the 2007 Spring Game. By design or by luck, that's amazing.
