Absolutely no excuses for a 2nd straight home loss to a mediocre team and a 3rd!!! straight late game meltdown. The Pg excuse can't be used to just explain away losing so many winnable games and ending up in 9th place in the conference. If anything can go wrong, it does go wrong with this team and that's on everyone associated with the program.

Absolutely the point guard loss is the reason.

No it's not. The point guard loss explains why the Gophers didn't compete for a top spot in the Big Ten and a good seed in the NCAA's. The point guard loss does not explain losing to Indiana, Illinois at home, PSU, Michigan State at home, and Michigan at home. The Gophers had plenty of talent to win those games and they lost them ALL. That's on way more than just the point guard position.

When teams are as close as they are in the Big Ten you need someone to step up in crunch time and they just don't have it. Call it what you want but I hear the term lack of leadership alot. This team just doesn't have anybody that can do that.

Last year Joseph stepped up and filled that role. This year there just isn't anyone to do it.

That would be true if terrible defense such as on the 3 that put Michigan up 1 or the vast number of layups we gave up in the 2nd half wasn't as much of a problem as offensive execution. Everytime the Gophers seemed to have momentum in the second half, they gave up a shockingly easy score. Most of the games they lost, they need to do one of two things to win: play solid defense or continue to score. They have failed to do either and often look confused and disorganized on both ends of the court, even after timeouts.

Point guards can do that. Seniors can do that. Wish we had our senior point guard.

That said, we still should have won this game and the 2 before it, not to mention Illinois, @Indiana, and possibly even @Ohio State awhile back. It has not been fun watching this team fall so far from our high hopes at the beginning of the season. Earlier this season, we were a top 15 team, now there's a good chance we don't make the tourney. Next year should be much better.

For in game adjustments and poor late game performances, I would tend to look at the coaching staff. Its either that or the players are just not that good...If the talent was there to beat a lot of the above mentioned teams, then the coaches need to take the brunt of the blame, IMO...

Tubby's Barn is the name of this forum? I think not! I remember the day when the Gophers were unbeatable in the Barn.

Each of those games could have been W if Gophers played better in 2nd half.

Tubby played a 2-3 zone with 4 bigs against a team that has one strength...shooting.

Tubby put in 4 freshman right when we got within 2. By the time we finally got a timeout we were down 13.

Tubby hasn't made one good set play work in crunch time this year.

Even with Nolen, the crappiness of Tubby would lose us a few games.

As far as I am concerned, tubby can go to NC State and we can let the Tim Miles era begin.

Regarding your fourth sentence, indeed Gophers lost 4 L (out of 20 games) when Nolen got hurt.

What Friend of Tubby said! +1
When the transfer happened I think you guys were what 16-4 ? Then the unfortunate Nolen Injury on its heels.
Don't under value how a great point can make a coach look like a genius!
It has been that way since my earliest memories of college ball in the early 60's.
