Per Rivals, Ricky Kreklow has committed to Missouri. The shooter would have been a good fit for the Gophers. Where does Tubby go next?

Despite what Rivals.com says, I don't think Kreklow had a Minnesota offer.

Having seen him play I don't think that's a big loss. Although he's a very good passer and shooter, you might be hard pressed to find a more unathletic wing player that's a high major prospect.

and isn't that what tj said?? you're really confusing me right now plinnius

Maybe........

Tubby knows what he is doing. His first two class have left me quite impressed. Maybe we should wait until the class is filled before we panic. Iverson, Sampson, Joseph, White, Williams.....................I'm pretty sure the next H.S. commit won't be Screech from Saved by the Bell.

It's very tough to sell playing time with the roster we have now (young and talented). The class would be a success if Tubby can land one star that fits well. I wouldn't be surprised to see them sign two and bank one.

As is, Gophers 2011 roster:

F Paul Carter, Rodney Williams
F Trevor Mbakwe, Royce White
C Ralph Sampson, Colton Iverson
G Devoe Joseph, Blake Hoffarber
G Al Nolen, Justin Cobbs

2 deep at each spot in the lineup.

FOT, the league is going to be loaded in the coming years. Illinois is having trouble selling playing time to some young recruits. For example, Chasson Randle grew up as an Illinois fan, his dad is a huge fan, and yet there is some doubt whether Illinois can get him. It could still happen, but he looks at the Illinois roster and sees a ton of talent at his positions of wing and point guard in 2011.

DJ Richardson, Brandon Paul, Joseph Bertrand, Crandall Head, Jereme Richmond, Tracy Abrams.

I think Chasson would fit in well and would earn time, but there might be other programs where he could walk right in and play without as much competition ahead of him.

My point is that the league is getting better. A recruit to Ohio State, Michigan State, and Purdue may have similar thoughts about immediate playing time. It is a healthy time for the league, though.

I've followed Big 10 since 1969 (my frosh year at Purdue). I expect most teams, Minnesota and Illinois included, will sign quality players, year after year.

True, but the league seems to really be on a rise in recruiting right now after a few years that were not up to the usual standards. Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio State, Michigan State, in particular, are recruiting at a level that will have them competing against the best in the country. imo

Big 10 has 5 coaches among the Top 25 active Div I coaches (as ranked by NCAA using career W-L %). Those 4 schools plus Wisconsin (Bo Ryan).

And Matt Painter (Purdue) is headed that direction.

Looking over that depth chart makes me feel great about our future. Again, we are so fortunate to have Tubby Smith -- I still can barely believe it after two years! Tubby not only turned around the program instantly, but he also wisely laid down the building blocks for long term success at a very high level.

I recently had a conversation with someone in Gopher administration that works closely with Tubby and he had only great things to say about him. No surprise, but nice to hear again and again.

And the reverse is true, I think. Tubby, Donna, and their family are very fortunate to have the opportunity afforded them by Minnesota. Great school, great AD and University Prez, great area to live (Twin Cities), and great basketball tradition that had been "asleep" recently.
